La Gruta

We had dinner here last week and cannot recommend it highly enough! Our most treasured meal in four weeks in Spain.

We chose the six course degustation which changes daily. For us it included sashimi, beef carpaccio, cantaloupe soup with basil mousse, fish of the day, truffle filet mignon, and the most amazing dessert I’ve ever had, a twin eclair with chocolate ice cream. I do not know how they made the gelato so delicious, it was so reasonably priced for a Michelin star restaurant, not pretentious, and the wine list was brilliant. Beautiful atmosphere sitting in the courtyard, we were the last to leave! The kitchen team were amazing and it has created lasting memories for us. Definitely recommend.

Went for the lunch menu; absolutely fantastic experience and incredible value. The portions are very generous which we were not expecting; we left incredibly full. The dishes were very impressive and delicious, but still satisfying like a home cooked meal. The wine pairing was also delicious. The location and restaurant is also spectacular and beautiful. Well deserving of the Bib Gourmand award.

By far the best restaurant in L'escala! Wonderful restaurant from beginning to end, we will definitley be coming back.

I cannot pass up the opportunity to dine at a Michelin rated restaurant and La Gruta did not disappoint. We had the 3 course price fixed meal. The dishwasher did not have to work hard that night. Absolutely amazing. Food prices in the US are so much higher than Spain. The cost for our meal with 4 cocktails was 130 Euros. Thats the cost of an average meal in the US. We enjoyed La Gruta so much we brought our cousins another night. They were just as happy as we were. We may even go a 3rd time. Thank you La Gruta

Great restaurant. The food was simply amazing, they are very thoughtful in every detail and very creative dishes. Me and my partner were extremely impressed with all dishes. The cacao nibs dessert was remarkable. The ambient is lovely and cozy, and the price was also very coherent.

The receptionist was the kindest, she took us 20 minutes before the restaurant closed, and the waiters were very sympathetic. I would without doubt go there again.

First discovered this place in 2012/2013 and have loved it ever since. It has become a MUST every time we are near Perpignan. Warm welcome, great service and food that takes you places… The couple that run the place have found their calling and perfected it…

Exquisite location paired with very attentive service.

Menu at lunchtime well-coordinated, including water. Wine is a mere 7€ additional fee, but it’s worth every penny.

Foie Gras, Salmon Supreme, Chocolate cake and Cardahio (Coffee with brandy).

Our best meal in Spain while on our 10 day trip. Food was beautiful prepared, good value and excellent service.

My wife and I have been coming , as often as we can, to La Gruta since 2014...so 10 years now!! We have dined at all three premises over the years and loved them all, but this is the best, not least because you now see Fabrice in action: he is a force of nature! To create the menus he does on a daily basis is far beyond normal human behaviour, it is almost frightening. Montse is the kindest host imaginable and the staff (who have been with them for many years in spite of the incredible demands of such a popular restaurant) are all absolutely lovely. This is by far our favourite restaurant anywhere in the world (and we have been to far too many), Michelin Star or not (who cares?), this is the pinnacle of what a great dining experience should be. Anyone giving less than 5 stars should have a very long look in the mirror.

What a beautiful experience. The venue is classy, the service is polite and attentive, the drinks are incredibly reasonably priced. Water was free and abundant, our Empordà wine was €16 which is incredible considering the venue, but the food was too die for. Plentiful, beautifully prepared and gorgeous. Can't wait to return

This has been both mine and my family’s favourite restaurant for years. The food is exquisite - every time is different, yet the same incredible quality and range of flavours. Their wine list too is suburb, and they stock some delicious local wines. The staff are always so welcoming, and the couple who run the business are both so talented, friendly and kind, always welcoming us back with a smile.
Loving their new location too! Being able to see your food being cooked is spectacular and the rustic yet elegant nature of the building interior is beautiful. 10/10 - It has everything and more.

Lovely atmosphere and really interesting food. We felt we got slightly less attention than the other guests, and one main course arrived rather late and generally the main courses were on the cooler side.

Interesting, beautiful and most importantly tasty food. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny.

Simply amazing! This beautiful little restaurant is on a cove overlooking the sea. The wait staff is excellent. I am a vegetarian traveling with none vegetarians so often it is hard to find good and interesting food. At first glance I did not see anything on the menu for me. I spoke with the waiter who suggested a few things and went with that. It was brilliant! I was able to thank the chef who said he loves to cook vegetarian dishes. My traveling companions were also over the moon with their meals. Don't miss this place when you visit L'escala.
