Realmente no se trata de una laguna ya que no tiene un origen natural. Se trata de uno de los abundantes depósitos de almacenamiento de agua, en este caso proveniente de la sierra de Fonfaraón, y destinado a abastecer las minas de oro de la zona de la Fana La Freita. Algunos canales aún son perceptibles.
El Camino Primitivo de Santiago por esta zona discurre a caballo entre tramos de las antiguas vías romanas y tramos de los canales ya en desuso.

Pola de Allande is a town and a parish in Allande, a municipality within the province and autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain. It is surrounded by the Cantabrian mountains. It is the capital of the parish. The town was founded between 1262 and 1268. Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, is 104 km away. The Nison River runs through the middle of the town, known for its trout while now fishing is banned there. source
