A great place to shop, better if you bother to get a card. Still good value, but beware, some of the offers are for card holders, without you pay full price.

Service way beyond the call of duty!

Stranded at the Centro Commercial in Aguilas, Spain where we had just visited Carrefour, our faith in humanity was restored by one selfless act of kindness today (Wednesday 2nd October) that cannot go without comment.

Having only been in the area for 3 days and loaded down with a full trolley of shopping, we failed to notice the time of the last bus going in our direction. We were stranded and began to call the taxi services but to no avail, nobody answered, not even the 24 hour services. With no public transport links to our village we started to get seriously concerned.

We returned to the information desk and explained our situation to a very professional lady named Juana who proceeded to call at least 15 taxi services on our behalf, but once again to no avail.

After devoting more than 40 minutes to our cause Juana finally solved our solution in the most unexpected way by contacting the chief of Carrefour himself no less. Jaime, the boss, met us in his own private car at the front of the centre and drove us calmly and extremely safely to our village destination about 7 miles away and in totally the opposite direction of his own residence.

We spent the journey chatting away merrily, if a little clumsily in our bad Spanish, until we arrived. Jaime refused a monetary thank you point blank citing "All part of the service" and even gave us his phone number should we have any further problems.

As a former supermarket manager of 20 years myself in the UK I found his and his staff's actions way beyond the call of duty and strongly feel that this letter should be read by the hierarchy throughout Carrefour as well as in training sessions as a shining example of how to understand true old fashioned customer service.

We may well be in a fast moving digital age but when two individuals can be bothered to recognize and help a couple in distress irrespective of the "need" to do so, a ray of hope shines bright for all.
