Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg

Fabulous chateau set on top of a hilltop with stunning views and an impressive structure to explore. The parking was problematic and you have quite a climb once you have finally found somewhere to park.
The admission took a long time with long queues and only two kiosks open. That aside, it's a terrific way to spend a couple of hours.

On 20 July 2024, my wife and I came. Seeing the first available roadside vacant lot in a one-way road, we parked our car and walked uphill for around 600 meters.
In the Chateau, we easily spent two hours speculating how life was like for builders, servants noble owners then and reconstruction/maintenance project managers and tradesmen now.
At the souvenir shop, I bought a T-shirt with the Chateau device on it for 26 Euros. My wife and I knew it was our first and last visit of the Chateau.

Amazing château perched high up in the hills - you can see this place from miles away. Incredible to walk around and feel the history dating back to the 1100’s. The views are absolutely breathtaking! Parking tip - the road at the top is a one-way loop, so it’s worth doing a loop (only takes a few minutes), as there can be free space nearer the top where earlier visitors have left 👍🏻 Also worth buying e-tickets in advance.

I liked this castle and can recommend visiting it. It has some interesting indoors and really cool outdoors. The view from the top of the castle is awesome. It costs 12€ per person. The parking area gets crowded so arrive early!

Wow wow wow 🤩 soooo amazing this castle was huuuugggeeeeee. The view from up top is amazing and you can get the castle too. What a great place. We also had some cakes/pies at the little restaurant there. The lemon meringue was super delicious! 🤤 highly recommend this castle it’s worth the 12€

No wait because we arrived on time in the morning (9:20, opened at 9:30), else I'd add some time waiting to get a ticket and also slower visit as it'll be more crowded inside.

This was an amazing Castle, really takes you back in time. It is very well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. I would definately go again if I am in Strasbourg France again, as itvis just a short drive from there. The Castle was amazing. The staff was helpful, but the view was....it definately adds to the ambiance, the clouds don't hover over the mountain, they roll over the mountain, buttressing the whole mysterious castle on the mountain vibe. If you have the time, I Highly reccomend it.

Beautiful castle. Very well maintained en clean. Interesting history to discover. Easy to park your car.
Certainly worth while to visit when you’re in the Elzas region.

Great Medieval castle, indulging you in the atmosphere of that times; convenient free parking outside, nice forest to walk through nearby; both adults and children were excited about the visit

Marvelous castle! Worth visiting in any weather but up there it is windy.
Parking is free, there is a parking lot and upward from it to the castle there are plenty of parking spaces. If you don’t find a place just go round and you will return to the mentioned lot.

Wonderful castle! A lot of tourists. Interesting for children and adults. Book a guide! It worthed it.

For parking, try to not stop where the last car stands. There are many open spots near the entrance.

Some ladies' toilets were not available making the line so long.

Exceeded expectations.
I have toured a number of castles, and this was the best so far - both in the condition and overall design. Cooler than my 5th grade self could imagine.
Definitely recommend getting the audio guide to go with - worth it.

Amazing castle atop of a mountain with great views. Kaiser Wilhelm II built on top of the older castle from 1900 to 1908. Nestled in the clouds and when it clears, views to the black forest. Nice tea room and restaurant.

Very nice castle with a stunning view. Didn't do the inside visit but the castle is well worth going to just for the location and the nice walk around the property. Parking is quite limited and an uphill walk of 100m to 1km might be required to reach the castle.

Fabulously restored castle. Very good audio tour. Definitely worth the trip if you are in the area.

Great place for half day trip. Drive is pleasent along the vineyards. Castle has a very good and kid friendly round trip. Car parking can be tricky

Breathtaking visit!

This castle is amazing and in great condition. If the weather cooperates, you will get beautiful views of the castle itself and the surrounding valleys.

The walking tour takes you around the most important part of the buildings and there are lots of stopping points to learn more about each room or the history of the castle. Audio guides are available at the ticketing office. I highly recommend grabbing the free pamphlet about the castle's history, it contains great information and adds value to your visit!

Astonishing castle, in perfect conditions.

So worth it, the visit takes around 1h30min or 2 hours. Beautiful, great views, perfectly preserved.

Lots of parking in the surrounding area, although it gets quite busy at peak hours.

A castle with very interesting parts: a drawbridge, old furniture, old windowsills you can sit on, weapons and so on. The walk through the castle is varied, including good views.
