Wish Tereze had been held here. Much more beautiful and historical.. the money should have been spent here instead of that gaudy church on the hill

Marcel Proust and his driver came to view the façade and doors of Lisieux Cathedral in the early 1900s. They arrived after sunset and so lit up the building with the headlamps of the car. He re-tells the travel story in a piece for Le Figaro:

Beautiful church that is quite beautiful to see.

Such a beautiful cathedral. It is not very famous and so not highly frequented. I took advantage of that and went to Lisieux with my best friend. You should go and see it with your own eyes, this place is simply ethereal.

Nice and very solemn place...and very near to beaches and coastal area 30mins drive in Normandie.

Visited here 2016 and I was blown away by this amazing Cathedral! Lisieux certainly boasts some magnificent churches and a beautiful city. Lisieux Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Lisieux) is a stupendous Gothic building with three portals and two towers. The interior is just breathtaking. A must visit.

It is beautifully ancient, but in such good condition (11th or 12th century). Loved to see the places where St Therese made first confession and had mass. Some beautiful paintings as well.

It makes feel home. How lovely it is when we know that our dear little Thérèse was going there to hear Mass and pray ❤

Most underrated pilgrimage site in Lisieux. Parish frequented by the Martin family. Chapel where Saint Therese attended daily mass and where she received her little revelation and desire to gather the blood dripping from the base of the crucifix as sign of love to give to others. The high altar was donated entirely by her father, Saint Louis Martin, who was quoted as stating that he had given his daughters to the Church and now, lacking a son, he at least was able to give an altar. He was also quoted as responding to a priest who said, "now we have the altar, a priest, all we lack is the victim (speaking about the Eucharist)" and Saint Louis Martin said, I am that victim. This was just three months before his health began to severely decline.

Historical place to see.

Nice town to visit, pretty and lots of places for a coffee or somewhere to eat

Majestic, extravagant, gorgeous, beautiful, peaceful and peaceful. Lots to see and do.

It's just a beautiful French Gothic cathedral. What's not to like?
