Les Chambres de Souverain Moulin

A largely positive experience in a delightfully secluded, easy-to-reach and quiet village near the coast with its various ferry terminals. ‘Veronique’ , our host, kindly allowed for our possible late arrival - although we reached our destination much earlier than anticipated - and was very welcoming, along with other members of the family, despite our not having been expected so soon. The connecting rooms were pleasant and clean, modern but elegant in their simplicity, and offered a nice view of the front garden. The rooms cannot be said to be enormous, nevertheless not tiny either if compared with other guesthouses in the area. The parking space afforded a reasonable degree of security, although not officially monitored, as it was away from the road. Hot drinks could be made directly in the room, and our host kindly lent us an opener for a bottle we acquired at the neighbouring seaside town (10 minutes or less by car). It should be said that the rooms formed part of the household’s abode, albeit on the one side of the building, and did not come with a key for the the occupants' tranquillity, but the front door is locked at night. The entire house , including the dining area, is very stylishly furnished, for the most part modern rustic / shabby chic with very few items out of keeping with the overall look. Breakfast included a variety of excellent breads and homemade jams (rhubarb and strawberry, with the latter predominating, and peach, lemon and almond – delicious , if a little unusual), some very well cooked and inviting homegrown pears, fruit juice , fresh fruit and coffee. It would have been nicer still if there had been a greater understanding of a vegan diet (our very kind host appeared to be in some difficulty) , but to be fair, we hadn’t given any ‘forewarning’, and considered that the guesthouse is so close to the UK, greater fluency in English might have been expected too; but there again, perhaps we need to improve our very limited French. Lastly, a few additional bits of info on arrival would have been welcome (how to regulate the room temperature for example), but perhaps most guests prefer to figure these aspects out for themselves. Overall to be strongly recommended.

Propriétaire agréable, discrète, se met en quatre pour que votre séjour se passe bien. Chambre spacieuse avec un petit coin pour boire un café, bonne literie.Nous avions l'étage pour nous seuls. Bon petit déjeuner varié. La Propriétaire nous fait aimer sa région. Nous y retournerons certainement.

Een oase van rust, zo genoten van ons weekendje opaalkust.
Veronique de gastvrouw was zo lief en serveerde ons smorgens een aangepast heerlijk ontbijt vol streekproducten.
De kamer was piekfijn in orde! Wij komen zeker terug maar dan voor enkele dagen ☺
