Puy de Sancy

Stunning view once you make it to the top. We were a little surprised by the difficulty of the hike. Bring good shoes and not sneakers :)

The highest point of the Massif central (1886m). Access by hiking or by cable car from Le Mont Dore station. Wonderful point of view over the French Massif Central and the related « Puys » (extinct volcanoes) for example the Puy de Dôme but also over the valley of Chaude Four.

Beautiful views. Gondola is around 10 euros return. The line up gets big so go early. The stairs at the top are wooden and quite uneven. Not great for bad knees.

Magic

Climbing is a little strenuous on the way up, but the start is the hardest. The top is worth all the walking as it gives you a beautiful view of the mountain range all the way up, but once you are at the top, it becomes even more magnificent somehow. Lots of signs to guide your walking and you can take the cable car up and walk down etc. It's nice to go up during a cooler climate as you are quite exposed the whole way up. There are some leisure activities at the top in which you can zip line all the way back down to the town or mountain bike down (We saw many people doing this). Recommended 100%.

Should be better served, it was danger to climb the stairs..

11 euros for a return trip in the cable car. Plenty of fabulous views and walks. During high season I'd recommend getting there early - one of my photos shows the queue for the tickets as we returned at 11am.

Amazing experience!!! We climbed with our daughter( 9y) until the top and we came back by walking. We had the right equipment.
I recomand this place for sûre..

Very good place to visit. You might need to wait a long line for the telecabin, but other than that it is very recommanded to take a time to visit this place.
