The Velorail Perigord Vert is a load of fun. We were at the front of the pack so we took off like a possessed locomotive. Didn’t expect it to be such a big uphill slog (maybe we should have used the electric assist motor!!). A well deserved beer and toilet break later we were off for a small climb before they turned us around and sent us back down the hill. We were surprised at the speed we could get and even more so at the stopping distance required.
A really fun afternoon. Thank you

Such a fun, family experience. It’s a 14 km (7 in one direction) route with a 15 min stop while going there. Electrical support really makes it easy and pleasant as first part is all up the hill. Going back is like a roller coaster ride with almost none work that had to be done. It took us about 2 hours in total. The only problem is that reservations are only via telephone so sharpen your French. We were in July and there are three courses daily : 9:30, 14:00 and 16:00.

Great value FUN! You must ring to book but the lovely lady who answers the telephone speaks English so don't worry if no French speakers in the family. Turn up, plenty of parking, get on your velo and off you go. On the way up the battery assists you as it's up hill. Half way you get a welcome ice cream and toilet break. On the way back it's more of a thrill ride as gravity takes you down the hill. Our family loved it so much, was totally worth 2 hours car journey each way. Very good value for the €45. Look out for a toilet stop at the start, will give you a giggle 🤭, will tell you what rural France is really like! Thank you to the team at Velorail, Period Vert.

Great fun for all the family, no excess effort required due to the electric motor. Excellent staff, just have fun and mind the traffic at the level crossings. Do phone them to book and check how busy they are.

Great fun velorail which is well run and is electric assisted for the uphill stretch. The way back was downhill and amazing fun - like being on the runaway minecart kart at Disney.

Great morning out kids loved it and was a good workout too. Easy activity but you need to be reasonably fit. Would recommend this to anyone.

Fantastic activity; 3 of us went, you must phone and book, and takes cash only. Answer machine may be full but keep trying, it is run by volunteers. The whole experience was about 3 hours, hour ish one way, a stop for icecream and light refreshments where they turn the carts around; which is about 45mins. The run back was a lot quicker downhill. Almost all the way is through trees, over a few road crossings, just close your eyes and peddle like crazy!. The volunteers were excellent, looked after my elderly mother, and were very respectful.

We had great fun here. There’re different trip options to different places but we opted for the 2 hours to Thiviers (1hr go & 1hr back). We had a blast & great exercise too! Definitely going back for another one!

This is so much fun! Prepare to spend 2 hours pedalling a railway buggy/vehicle on a disused section of railway track through woodland, over bridges, through tunnels, past abandoned stations and across country roads.
Up to 5 people can ride each buggy with two people pedalling. The 5.5km route is predominantly uphill, but you are helped by an electric assistance motor, so even though you still have to pedal, it is much easier. After about 3 km you have a refreshments stop with ice cream and drinks and a pretty rudimentary toilet facility (we are in rural France after all) before continuing for another 2km.
Then comes the really fun bit!! When you get to the end, your buggy is turned around and you head back to the start... downhill! Up to 30km an hour and not a lot of pedalling on the way back! The kids absolutely loved it and it wasn't that much of a workout if you used the electric assistance.
Booking is essential (by phone), payment is cash only and there are 3 departures a day (10h30, 13h30, 16h30) but you MUST arrive 30 minutes before departure to pay, sign waivers and learn how to operate the buggy. Enjoy!

Fun afternoon out , 4 adults and one teen , took turns on the peddle seats as going slightly up hill requires a bit of energy even with the electric assistance , the best bit by far was the speedier return journey , not much peddling needed , felt like an old style rollercoaster . They only took cash and we phoned the day before to book a slot

Fantastic fun for our family of 14 across 3 carts. Nice and shady most of the way, and fun jumping off at the road crossings. Felt like we had earned our ice-cream at the stop off!

A very nice outdoor activity. And I believe fun for children. I went on the Velorail with my husband and we had a lot of fun. We chose the 10 km circuit. The path is shadowed by trees, so although it was warm outside, the activity was pleasant. I highly recommend it!

The velorail is a unique, and fun, way to spend an afternoon in the Perigord Vert. You have to call to book in advance, which I was initially hesitant about as my French is very poor, but it was not a problem as they spoke very good English. When we arrived we were met by a very friendly (and funny!) man, who spoke perfect English. He explained how the velorail works, the rules and so on. Essentially you ride the velorail to a small park where there are some refreshments and a washroom before riding back to the start. The ride to the park was more difficult but the ride back is very easy and you can coast at a decent speed almost the whole way. Riding the velorail is not difficult if you can ride a bike, but if you can’t they rent an electrical device that you can use to power the velorail. I would highly recommend this experience during your visit to the Perigord Vert. Not only is it a lot of fun, it is a good cause run by volunteers who are trying to keep the historic rails open.
