Very pleasant cafe that contains memorabilia and donations from many sources. The first place liberated by the Allied forces on D Day. When we went into order we were greeted with a smile from the daughter of the original owners, she spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The prices were expensive but you were paying for much more than tea but really a piece of history. They don't have card facilities but in many village cafes that is the case. Sitting outside in the sun watching boats on the river next to us a perfect way to finish our visit to Pegasus bridge.

Quite a remarkable place, filled with amazing memorabilia.

We were quite taken with this little place.

Just one small criticism..... the public toilet facilities were out of order....... and it being quite an essential need for any human being..... when we asked politely if we could use the toilet at the cafè, the lady wasn't very forthcoming unless we bought a drink. We were going to sit and have a drink regardless, but it was a shame the assumption was made on her part. I know that many people use the cafe and make this request probably often, but we found she came across a bit rude.

We did have hot chocolate, which wasn't the best...... but we were polite and did drink it. Which were 2 euros 50 cents each, so we spent more than a penny!

Stopped off here on the way back from Le Mans, just before we had to catch the ferry home. Sadly didn't have time to investigate everything in depth, but the service was lovely and the food was exquisite!
Have the grand platter - well worth the money and a good feed. Museum has good memorabilia and gifts for a range of budgets.
Well worth a stop to learn about the bridge and the paratroopers.

Cafe Gondree is a small French cafe in Benouville next to Benouville Bridge. (Pegasus Bridge). The cafe is forever etched in British Airbourne history, Pegasus bridge, and the first House in France liberated on D-Day. A must visit for the history buff or D-Day tourist when visiting Pegasus Bridge .The museum which houses the original bridge and other areas of interest are nearby. There is ample parking opposite the museum which is but a short walk to the bridge and Cafe Gondree
Lest we forget ❤ 🌹

Very special place. Visited on 7 June and D Day commemorations were continuing with Canadian pipe band, air cadets marching over Pegasus bridge and a large number of veterans with their medals.

Very nice cafe. We had breakfast here and very reasonably priced.

Lots of history here. it's a must stop place even just for a coffee to site and take in the reality of what actually went on many years ago.

Arrived here with NWKCOG and 20 odd noisy kit cars. Had a coffee or two then introduced ourselves to Mme Gondrée. We could not have been made more welcome. Mme G wanted to know all about us and our cars, joined in our photos then treated us all to coffee. Great lady.

We loved sitting at this cafe and the biere was excellent too. Just by Pegasus Bridge & very atmospheric with a real buzz about the place due to the busy passing of cyclists and tourists, and the history. The same family run it as in 1944 when DDay began.

Meeting Madame Gondree one of the first people to be liberated as well as the cafe in WWII, it was a special moment, a truly lovely lady that was so interested in ourselves as well as her stories, there is so much history within with artefacts, pictures etc, we treated ourselves to well deserved omelette and Gondree special platter which was scrumptious. Every time I am near by I will be stopping by, it's a must

We were a group of 5 guys visiting Nomandy for the week. Pegasus Bridge was high on our list to visit and we were not disappointed. We wanted some lunch so we went to Cafe Gondree. This is a very interesting cafe packed with history and stories of pegasus bridge. It is definitely a place to visit and have some lunch. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is spot on. We all enjoyed our visit to the cafe and would definitely be back on our next visit. The lovely lady Arlette Gondrée who owns this cafe lived here as a young child during the taking of the Pegasus bridge and has lots of memorabilia on display.

A beautiful café that is a living memorial to the group that took Pegasus bridge.

A great spot for souvenirs for the airborne, or for a coffee or espresso.

The staff are lovely prices are fair and it’s a great spot to watch everyone as they go by.

Strongly recommend you visit this place if you’re in the area and want to see Pegasus bridge

It was a privilege to meet Madame Gondrée who greeted us. It had great atmosphere and the food and coffee was served by Madame Gondrée which made it quite special.

The cafe has lots of old photos and items through the years. No photos allowed to be taken and they don’t take credit cards.

For the people who say she is rude, they must of been quite rude themselves ie couldn’t read the signs NO PHOTOS or were upset they don’t take credit cards……..

Visited whilst in France for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. The owner was a lovely lady who spoke perfect English and regailled everyone with her accounts from 1944, when she was 4 years old.
If you're near Ranville or Pegasus Bridge, it is an absolute must visi.

The food is good, but more than anything the building is historic. It was the 1st building to be liberated from the German doing WWII.
