Prego Pizzeria

We had a fantastic time at Prego Pizzeria! Our hosts were so welcoming and it made for the best meal (*2 as we definitely had to go back again!) of the holiday!

We recently stayed a week in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and had heard good things about Prego Pizzeria so thought we'd check it out. I'm glad we did. Prego is an unpretentious and lovely little restaurant, which can be found besides the impressive old Église Saint-Jacques at the top of the hill in the centre of the village. It is well worth the walk up the hill (just aim for the church spire). As soon as you step through the gate you are met with a beautiful riot of verdant plants and herbs, and welcomed warmly by the very friendly and smiley Sandy, who owns the restaurant with her husband. The ambience is instantly relaxing, and the long views over the Charente from the end of the terrace are a treat.

Then there's the food...delicious, beautifully-presented salads, and pizzas that are the best I have had in a long, long time: cooked to perfection, crispy in all the right places, and full of flavour. We were going to refrain from dessert, but as we sat enjoying a coffee (excellent) we watched as an array of mouth-watering desserts were carried out to other tables. We caved....chocolate mousse, tiramisu, ice cream (we went back a few times!), all absolutely delicious and created, like all the food, by Sandy's talented husband, who works some kind of magical alchemy in his kitchen.

Prego Pizzeria is an absolute must if you are in Aubeterre. Highly recommended.

Popped into this little gem a couple of times during our weeks stay in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne. charming little Pizzeria, food is great, especially the calzone! Staff are very friendly, will definitely be back!

Had a great meal here. Welcoming staff, great view, quiet location, amazing pizzas and good price. Don’t expect fast or expert service, pizzas need time to cook. But expect a great relaxed meal on the garden/balcony. Currently hard to find as not on trip advisor or signposted in village. But worth the find

Ate here on Thursday with my family of which two are young children and it was brilliant! The lady who owns it was totally running the show and was very charming to us all. She is a real gem. The ambience of the place was so nice and the food was great! We ate outside and it was lovely. My wife and I are notoriously bad at picking places to eat and we ate somewhere else previously earlier in the week in Aubterre in the square for my wife's 40th birthday and it was distinctly average, I really wished we picked Prego for her big day as everything was perfect when we visited. I wish I could find you guys on TripAdvisor so I can give you a great review there. Many thanks for a great meal, the mozzarella was to die for! All the best.

Prego Pizzeria is one of those gems you never want to lose. The restaurant is hidden up in the heights of Aubeterre, just behind the beautiful old Église Saint-Jaques. You are engulfed by the most gorgeous plants , all revelling in the Charente sunshine . The flowers glow by day and at night you are entranced by the fairy lights that adorn the garden , transporting you into a sublime evening enchantment. I’ve not even begun to talk about the food , think quality and flavour , and all dished up by the lovely friendly staff . You will need more than one visit to savour all the delights. Pizzas , devine , let’s say “ miam miam “ or choose a lasagna, they are super delicious ! Plan to taste every salad , then “ rewind” and eat all over again ! Okay now the desserts!! Forget the diet, you have to have a dessert, they melt in your mouth ! For sure , like myself, you will return . As they say here in France “ Pas Mal “ !!

Lovely place to sit outside. High up in the old and beautiful village of Aubeterre. Fluent English. Very friendly staff. You can park very close to the village centre square and easily go there on foot.

We fell in love with this place the moment we were welcomed by the personnel and the music in the background. The food was delicious and the service impecable. Definitely a place to go back . Our kids were very happy with the pizzas they chose and the desserts. Thank you once more for making a perfect evening for the 6 of us

Good food. Warm welcome and a great view. We dined here after visiting the other close pizza restaurant and i prefer Prego. We were given a warmer welcome and its less pretentious! Catered for everyone in our party of 8. Recommended!!

Wonderful Italian restaurant. The food was so good we ate there twice. Lovely staff and amazing views of the town below.

Been here a few times and loved the experience each visit! My favourite by far is the 4 Stagioni pizza followed by the Tiramisu - as a frequent traveller, I can say it’s the best I’ve ever had. Service is always done with a smile and you are always looked after. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit if in the area!

We have had many pizzas over the years (mostly all my wife will eat when abroad) and this restaurant is one of the best 😎I asked for extra meat BUT had it explained to me the pizza I had ordered would have loads anyway, so stuck with menu choice. Both of us had lovely tasty pizzas with the base cooked, even in the middle! None of that soggy middle which was great. I then had a lovely afogatto with limoncello which had proper vanilla ice cream, with bit of vanilla pod throughout. We ate on the terrace with view over Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and there was plenty of seating indoors when it rains. Great service great food, a real gem worth the extra few mins walk from the Centre Ville. Oh and the terrace contains loads of pot plants where the proprietess grows the restaurant bay leaves, mint etc in amongst beatiful flowers.

Went here for the first time last Sunday evening with friends. The calzone was amazing! The terrace has a lovely atmosphere and this was enhanced by the the friendly, efficient staff. The service was spot on and we will definitely be returning to try something else from the menu sometime soon. We would highly recommend this restaurant

Cafe Prego is a lovely addition to the village. Opening in Coronavirus times is a challenge but they have gone to a great effort to make sure customers feel comfortable and safe. The food is delicious (definitely recommend the calzone) and the prices are very reasonable. The cafe is uphill from the main square but the tables sit in a pretty courtyard and if you are lucky you can get one of the couple that have lovely views of the valley. We have ordered takeaway pizza as well- also very good. I'm looking forward to a time when they will be able to expand the menu and make full use of the cafe without the virus restrictions.

Great friendly service, wonderful pizza, and simply the best coffee we've had in a long time here in France. Also loving the ambiance on the terrace. Highly recommended for relaxed lunch. Must come back for an evening.

So pleased that Prego Pizzeria has been able to open up. I have so missed my wonderful Pizzas. Had a great night with fantastic food, wine & service (as always) with a smile. The Chocolate Mousse is a MUST for all chocoholics !!

Introduced to this lovely restaurant by friends who have been here before. Booked a table with best views over the valley. The atmosphere created is genuine Italian. Service is very friendly. Food is excellent and extremely good value for money. We will surely come back.
