Le Relais du Château Chalais

This off the beaten track Château is a charming and ambient venue for some beautiful classic French food.

We last visited in August 2021 and enjoyed dinner on the château’s outdoor terrace which is a lovely venue flanked on one side by the gardens and on the other by the château itself. (In cooler months the castles dining room is really atmospheric too though).

The food is always superb and combines the best of local ingredients imaginatively and faultlessly prepared. We enjoyed a seasonal set menu this time.

The staff is attentive without being over the top, helpful and warm. The service is really good without being at all obtrusive. Their wine suggestions are always thoughtful and interesting.

Enjoyable, unpretentious and well priced. There is much to relish!

This is an exceptional place to dine. Away from the hustle and bustle, we loved every meal that we ate here. The chef is so friendly and charming, and the food is classically French, very delightful. Can’t wait to go back soon.

We spent a great moment here. The live music and the old château were wonderful and created a beautiful atmosphere. The staff was very kind and friendly!

We visit here every summer once. 2021 new crew and excellent service. Can recommend menu, with oyster & fois gras, good wines, pricier than your average, but superb quality and attention. Great for night out!

Visited for lunch yesterday and we were greeted by Antoine who was absolutely brilliant. The food was to die for and the ambiance was a delight! 100% recommended and you will not be disappointed!

One of the most exceptionals restaurants in Chalais. Antoine is an absolute legend who gave great recommendations for Bordeaux.

Returned to the chateau for a b/day meal in April. The recently appointed chef creates a masterpiece with every course. We were pleasantly surprised by the superb food, the welcoming staff (the Wonder from Wolverhampton) and great ambiance. Very pleased this restaurant is back on track.

Amazing food, very welcoming , if you have a special occasion I would highly recommend it. Or if you would like to eat somewhere in exceptional surroundings try it out.

Without doubt the very best place to eat. I have only been about 4 times in 6 years but I am never dissappointed. Good look to the wonderful staff.

Great food in a great atmosphere, the castle in the background was great, the flavours eere very delicate and lovely, thr bill was what ee expected, s real good experience.

Fine dining at it's very best, a gastronomic delight with an ambience and service to match. I cannot recommend it highly enough, absolutely a must!
