Old Bank House Chocolate Shop

What a nice little shop! The lady was nice enough, wide selection of chocolates. Good for gifts, bit on the pricy side but they’re good quality so you get what you pay for. I did wince at £17 for 3 small packets of chocolate) My parents are both VERY happy with their gifts (chocolate sheep and jack daniels truffles.) I’ve been looking for the flavoured chocolate buttons for a while, as i’ve remembered having them since I was young and finally found them here! It’s like a taste of childhood.

Was looked at a bit strangely for taking photos, which was fair enough just felt a bit watched. Slightly dated decor inside but it’s all personal taste.

Gorgeous homemade chocolates, can even see a fountain of chocolate behind the scenes. Pricey but understandable if they’re made on site

Whenever we come to the Lakes on holiday we always head to Ambleside and the first shop is the Old Bank House Chocolate shop. There is a huge range of differing types of chocolates from truffles to raspberry creams and coins to whole blocks.
There is also a selection of fudges to choose from too.

As some have said yes it is a bit pricey but the chocolate is very good quality and very tasty. My favourites are the large Alpini.

Always a must visit for great chocolates!

We spent around £26 on 3 bags of chocolate, but it was worth it, and we saved money on buying deserts out, which are often disappointing anyway. So yummy.
We will be back.

The greatest peppermint crèmes! Turkish delight, giant Alpini, Viennese, milk chocolate marshmallows, nougat and cognac truffle - all absolutely amazing also. Cannot recommend this place enough; a real, authentic star of a chocolatier which I will be dreaming about until I next visit!

The chocolates are amazing and the customer service is second to none! I visited with my partner back in April and we thoroughly enjoyed the selections of truffles. So much so, when deciding what to get him as a treat for his birthday, I was thrilled to find they also delivered! I got a little too excited by this finding, and ordered the chocolates far too early for his birthday. I emailed them to explain my situation and they very kindly said they would delay my postage. Not only that, they also emailed me to let me know the status of the postage the whole time, and let me know of upcoming mail strikes that might affect the delivery. Thank you Old Bankhouse, the chocolates arrived perfectly and they were very much enjoyed! I could not recommend them more, worth every penny.

I don't normally write reviews but after reading a negative review from a day ago I just felt I needed to. My visit to this lovely shop was the exact opposite of what the other reviewer experienced. On walking in I was immediately greeted by the two ladies working there and offered samples of chocolate buttons which I can highly recommend. I spent some time browsing but didn't feel under pressure to purchase and as the weather was so hot I enquired what time they closed and was told 6pm. I duly returned at 5.50 and even though it was close to closing the lady couldn't have been more helpful and I bought a selection of chocolates from the cabinet (of which we have now eaten most) and would highly recommend the dark chocolate creams and alcoholic truffles. I will definitely be visiting this shop again on my next trip to Ambleside.

Friendly staff. A clean shop where all chocolates made on the premises, so smells amazing. Definitely worth treating yourself as these chocolates and truffles are gorgeous and velvety smooth. The grown ups kid in a sweet shop. So many to choose from. The rum truffles are potent, salted caramel cups are so tasty, the alpine are scrumptious and the lemon cheesecake are divine. That's just a small selection of their delectable choices. Yummy.

We visit every year on pur holidays and always have to pop in. The chocolate is absolutely beautiful. Slightly pricey but as we're on holiday, we don't mind paying it nor does it stop us coming back. The staff are always welcoming and friendly

Discovered the Old Bank House Shop whilst on holiday in Ambleside. Bought gifts for birthdays and purchased some individual chocolates for myself to try. Totally blown away, they were delicious. We went back to buy more to take home with us!
The people in the shop were lovely and explained that the chocolates were made inhouse and really pleased we'd come back to buy more.
Not all that is in the shop is online which is a shame as there were sweets, biscuits and other things too, so it's well worth a visit.
Now that I've tried Old Bank House Chocolates I won't be buying Hotel Chocolat or high street brands anymore as these are far better! Just waiting for my next delivery!

I started visiting this shop with my parents on family holidays over 25 years ago! Now visit with my husband about four times a year. Staff always pleasant and chocolates remain the same outstanding value and choice, keep up the good work and see you soon 😁

Bought a selected mixture of chocolates and a bag of Turkish Delight yesterday. The chocolates are wonderful, esp the dark chocolate Cherry liqueur with real cherry. The Turkish Delight is a real delight that melts in the mouth nothing like the ordinary stuff. This shop has a chocolate making area you can see from the pavement. It's on the main road a bit further out near the street that goes to the market and worth heading there. The chocolate covered marshmallows are really good too.

Wish there was a 6* button I could use. Lovely friendly staff and the BEST rum truffles ever! The actual reason for our visit ; to replenish supplies..think we left a few in the shop,got a gift for hubby - bottle of local beer with a chocolate sheep dog .He loved the chocolate , as did my daughter. I loved seeing the old bank safe door ; nice to see it still insitu. Bottom line, if you want the best then go here.

Bought a selection of chocolates for after Christmas lunch so have just sampled them. First class, amongst the best chocolates I've had anywhere. Only trouble is I can't stop eating them and have to wait for next visit to Ambleside to get some more! Chocolate lovers, try this shop, you won't be disappointed.

Great little independent choclitier. Always call in when nearby. One of my favourites - chocolate covered marshmallows. You need to call in if you're in Ambleside.

Great little chocolate shop with a lot of history, inside a very historic building! But more importantly, the chocolates are very good, wide range available and friendly owner - something for everyone here.

Shop here every time we visit Cumbria, always fill a couple of bags to take home. The Best chocolate ever and can order on-line from October.
