This is a really special place. Arthur the owner is wonderful and made us feel so comfortable. There was breakfast ready to help yourself at any time - cheese, ham, cereals, toast, tea, coffee, juice. There is a beautiful big lounge and a garden with picnic tables - my partner and I felt so at home we had to stay an extra night

I cannot praise this hotel highly enough! Arthur, the Manager, made us feel very welcome and kindly upgraded our room and included breakfast without our asking. The room which he allocated us was in the modern annex and was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast takes the form of a self-service, cold buffet and there is everything that one could reasonably wish for from cereals, bread (toaster), croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit ..... The hotel is located along the Abbey Road - a green, leafy and pleasant area - which means that access to the A590 and north or the docks/Walney Island are equally easy and convenient. The spectacular ruins of Furness Abbey are only a short drive away. The private, safe car park is huge and the hotel's wi-fi is amazingly quick and reliable.

A Masive thanks to Auther at the Chetwynde Hotel for looking after me when I was unable to complete my journey home from the Falklands last night because of the snow.
I rang up, reserved a room, was upgraded and made to feel at home.
I wad dead on my feet after a 20 hour flight followed by a 9 hour drive - So had a couple of pints followed wonderful nights sleep then a superb breakfast and back on the road again and got back home before dark.
Thanks Again
Rob

Absolute jewel of a find! Beautiful, classic hotel, tastefully furnished with the very warmest of welcomes from the lovely owner and his staff. Well appointed room with comfortable bed and large en-suite. Luscious breakfast and a relaxing bar area for later. Such a refreshing change from the usual impersonal plastic palaces around nowadays. Thank you for making our stay a little bit extra special!

Lovely place, great rooms, we had a disability room, easy parking, quiet place to sleep, near shops and all local areas around it is on the flat. Only issue you need the entrance card to open the outside door, and keep the lights on in the room. So if you only get one card, turn on the bedside lamps, before your partner goes back to the car to get the rest of your cases/bags.

Free parking in hotel car-park, with disabled access to the hotel available. Toilet facilities are on the ground floor.
The private function had the use of two adjoining, comfortable lounges (one with bar), and a lovely tea was served in a delightful dining room, with access to the garden.
Staff were cheerful, and helpful throughout the afternoon, allowing guests time to socialise in a pleasant atmosphere.

We have stayed here twice now. Reasonably priced hotel that offers a really good breakfast with plenty of choice included in the price. Full English/Irish, eggs Benedict, cereal, porridge, toast, tea and coffee etc.

The hotel rooms have comfy beds and a tv plus there is a hospitality tray in the room and plenty of tea/coffee/chocolate drink and biscuits.

There is a nice comfy lounge/bar area with tv on the ground floor.
There is also an accessible room on ground floor. Please note that his hotel does not have a lift.

The decor could do with updating buttons but to be fair a house with this amount of history wouldn't suit a 'spa hotel' look! It is a lovely old house with lots of original features and the sofas in the lounge are really comfy to relax in after a busy day.

We have visited twice and the rooms have been very comfy and have updated furniture although the bathrooms have a shower over the bath which might be a struggle for some. We asked for a non slip bath mat, as I was afraid of slipping.
The one criticism I would make is that the showers are hard to adjust and sometimes take a while to get going, but it wasn't bad enough to stop us coming again 😄

Nice friendly, helpful staff and manager.

There is lots of parking and a pretty little garden area with seats.

We do love this place, it's very homely and you feel like you can relax 😌

I would recommend this hotel.

The reason why me and my fiancee are rating five star is that we have just come back after staying two nights. We have been here before. We had such a great 2 night stay there this past weekend. Room large & reasonably priced, all the staff friendly & helpful and didn't mind us hanging around in the lounge after we checked out. We will be back!

Loved this hotel....nothing was too much trouble for them. The family room was huge, beds were so comfortable and the hospitality tray well stocked. Had everything in the room we needed. The food was delicious both at the evening meal and breakfast.

Staying as we had a do in Barrow. The room was perfect, large with gorgeous furniture. Everything we needed they even had a list of supplies that could be bought at the reception, toothpaste and the like. Breakfast was everything you could want. A collection of cereals, toast and cooked breakfast. We will definitely stay again.

What a brilliant hotel! Due to covid we had to rearrange our wedding at short notice which was very stressful. The Chetwynde bent over backwards to make our day special and arrange things last minute for us. it has a friendly atmosphere and follow covid rules closely. The food is really good expecially the roast beef. I would definitely recommend it as a comfortable place to stay and for a wedding reception. Thank you to all that work there!
