A good old fashioned drinking pub close to the beach and heart of Southwold. Alongside a range of drinks they also serve wood fired pizzas. The place is often busy but you can usually find a seat inside or in the courtyard at the back.

Great local pub with some good food in the middle of Southwold.

Didn’t stay long, just for lunch as I wasn’t feeling the atmosphere in the back of the courtyard which was a bit lacking for me.

We love this pub, great beer & we really look forward to visiting. We're so glad that we can now get Black Dog Deli pizza, they are absolutely delicious & very reasonably priced - being able to also have food there makes it an even better experience.

On entrance, this seems a traditional pub with plenty of real ales to choose from. Really friendly staff and locals.
What I was not expecting was an Italian style menu for food. We had three sough dough pizzas , absolutely fantastic and one chicken cescar salad which again was brilliant. Really authentic Italian style food, fresh, very tasty and well presented.
Made a lovey change from fish and chips.

Our favourite pub in Southwold.

Very friendly staff :)
The beer is obviously absolutely top-notch as it's within a stones throw of the brewery.

Order your supper from The Little Fish & Chip shop up the road & they will give you a pager for when it's ready; sit outside the pub with a pint with it.

Great pub in an excellent location. Fun to stand or sit outside with a pint and watch everyone walk by to the beach and back. Bar is always well staffed and stocked with snacks.

Food provided by a third party vendor. Pizzas are great. Light and a good size as a personal pizza.

In the lord nelson today, beer was great! An elderly gentlemen caused a horrible scene, embarrassing a breastfeeding lady, all because he didn’t think children would should be in the bar. I cannot state how much I admired and appreciated the professionalism of how the bar manager Sharon dealt with it. The older gentlemen clearly overstepped his mark and crossed some serious boundaries. It’s great to see a strong moral compass that’s enforced by, and deeply rooted within the bar staff. The beer is great here, but the staff are even better

The nelly is a great pub near the sea in the 'wold, fantastic beer 🍺. The nelson hosts indoor seating and outdoor seating in the pub garden or out the front. They've teamed up with black dog deli and are doing pizzas 🍕

If ever there is the perfect pub the "Nelly" is it. Full of character and if you have the time to stay and speak with locals, characters. Being so close to the Adnam's brewery the pint of Broadside is always superb. It lost it's food for a while (now wood fired pizza), but our visit in April 24 had a new manageress who seems to have brought some of the old verve back (Adnams please take note). The food going out looked good and our next visit will include trying it. I really adore this pub and it deserves every success with a good staff and some TLC.

Lovely to be able to sit and drink at a pub which is not serving food. Plenty of room for drinkers! Of course an Adnams pub, this is Southwold! Five draft beers on site, all tasted excellent. I did have a Rye whiskey chaser. Very enjoyable.

The pub has a front room, and a small snug on the side seating 8 in two tables. There is an musing set of cartoons by the Norfolk cartoonist Tony Hall.

To the right of the bar, past the loos is an outside seating area. Missed this on entry, but we were happy in the snug area to the left of the bar.

Still, after all the upheavals of COVID, the best pub in Southwold. Pizzas by Black Dog Deli on the day we went in - and on most other days too. Operation separate from the pub so drinks order at the bar, pizza order at your table, and pay separately as you go - no tab. Pizzas delicious.

Your typical Cosy coastal pub!
Owned by Adnams brewery so they mainly stock there own drinks.

When we visited there wasn't many tables, and it was quite busy, but the fire was going which was welcoming on a rainy day.

Only had drinks here, so can't comment on the food (which was pizza day)

In difficult times we were given a warm welcome in this lovely pub. Rammed on our visit on Saturday afternoon but managed to get a table. Guy behind bar very friendly. Good Ales, Adnams of course, excellent mulled wine as well. Well done.

My partner and friend ate the pizza which I know is done by a separate company. She said it was top notch.

We all enjoyed first class customer service and brilliant Adnams beer.

Aside from the main bar area, there are seperate, smaller seating areas, but this does not make the pub seem enclosed and dark. Owned by Adnams Ales the pub serves a good selection of ales from the brewery.

The pub leases its kitchen to the Black Dog Deli, who provide the menu/food in the pub. An excellent choice of food all of which is excellent quality. Me and my partner had a Black Dog pizza each. Excellent quality, but so huge, we wish we'd ordered one and shared it!

Toilets exceptionally clean. There is limited free parking outside the pub. It is close to, but away from the hustle and bustle of, the main town.

The overall feel of the pub is that it is more for the locals. We loved our experience and Athena, our service dog, was well catered for and fussed over too. DEFINITELY DOG FRIENDLY.

Stopped in for a pint adnams, kept exceptionally well, and service was spot on, the barmaid who played with our pup gave a superb recommendation for a figure 8 leash and it has been life changing !! Lovely pub, pizza menu looked fantastic too but didn't try, you could do a lot worse than stopping here for a while!

Served yesterday by a young lady who I found to be very rude after all YOU did get my drink wrong!! I've always had a great experience when popping in for a drink! I understand locals hate outsiders especially the ones who come here and are rude! I'm a local !!

Staff at the Nelson helpful and friendly. Saved the day for us when the chef at our hotel went sick! They orgainised a delicious pizza and salad washed down with a bottle of red wine. All in all a very pleasant evening in a lovely old fashioned atmosphere. Many thanks to all
