Pepper Hill Recycling Centre

I wouldn't normally write a review about a recycling centre but compared to what I'm used to, Pepper Hill was a pleasing experience!
We recently had to clear a deceased relative's property in Meopham and had to make a number of visits to Pepper Hill. Booking an appointment on their website is something I have never needed to do but it was very straightforward and I guess necessary, considering the number of cars visiting.
But most impressive were the staff members on site, so incredibly polite and very helpful.
If only our own recycling centres up here in Basettlaw were such a pleasurable experience, where they don't even accept tins of used paint, (but tell us that there's another recycling centre over 30 minutes away that will take them! ) ☹
Maybe I'll consider a 5 hour round trip to Pepper Hill next time. 😁

The staff are super helpful and friendly, and the facilities are really good. Wish I knew about this sooner, I'd have used it way more as it's super easy to use!

Fyi - as of today Google Maps directions are slightly off. I recommend looking on satellite view before setting off to confirm the entrance road.

What a pleasant helpful guy Gary is, so polite, I was very pleasantly surprised. He's a credit to whoever owns the recycling centre Gravesham council I assume. He needs some sort of recognition from his employer thankyou Gary for helping me today you made a difficult job much easier

Well organised, helpful and friendly staff, parking bays are supervised,staff are on hand to advise and help ,the staff are constantly cleaning , book a slot that suits you ,safety is observed, Well done and Thank you

Helpful staff and well marked bays. It makes going to the tip so much easier.

The online booking system ensures not to many cars turn up at the same time compared to days gone by. Helpful staff within the complex aid towards ensuring the waste items are disposed in the correct areas.

I would like to give special and positive mentione to two (or even three) workers at this refuse centre. Firstly: Shane who was at the front entrance on the gate being not only civil, courteous and affable but also for being sensible and allowing me entry even though I had not prior booked an appointment for entering (I did not know that this was a necessity).

Then another special mention goes out to: George inside the centre who not only helped me with some of my my refuse but also cracked a few jokes with me and helped me to find a trolley.

And finally a shout out goes to: the guy who was helping to keep back some of the cars in a queue before there was there parking space, he also seemed courteous. This is a mundane and sometimes fraught job and it helps that gravesham council have such stuff within their employ to help the the situation seem less of a pain-in-the-a**e👍🏽

Easy to book a slot online. Same day slots now available.
Arrived 5 minutes early, straight in. They now have trolleys to load and move to the correct bay. Staff efficient and friendly.
Charges for tyres, soil, plasterboard and hardcore.

The book in advance time slots work so well. The site is kept clean and tidy and sanitizing of barriers and trolley handles made it a safer environment. We would love the option of booking time slots to continue. Well done to all the staff working so hard.

I was probably one of the people against booking thinking I liked to be able to turn up when I want. My mind was changed and I love the booking system. No queues, organised, staff are helpful and don't talk to you like you are the trash. So much better than before. Keep it up and don't revert back to the prebooking days please.

Great! No queueing at all. Straight in and directed to an available space. Staff very helpful with telling us where our different bits of rubbish needed to go.
Everyone was covid safe and wearing masks inside as far as I could see, staff and patrons.
We were in and out quickly and efficiently.

Having moved into the area a few months ago and having a lot of to take to the tip, I am very impressed with the booking system and the efficient way it is run. The staff are very friendly and will help if they see you need help.

I booked a time slot the day before. I arrived 10 minutes early but went straight in. Staff were helpful as they could see I had a disability.

Erm. It was nice? We recycled lots of cardboard and it has shelter. They also give you leaflets identifying trip hazards which is handy considering last time we were there someone fell over and cut their leg pretty badly.

Bearing in mind that these are challenging times with social distancing, the visit was OK. Prior to Covid and booking a slot, there were long queues at this recycling site, in my experience. My slot was 11:30 and arriving at the manned barrier, there were no vehicles directly ahead of me. The attendant pointed to the notice about hard core and other chargeable materials to enquire if I had any. Responding no, he lifted the barrier to let me through as he had already checked my vehicle registration plate which was on my booking on the KCC Recycling website. It was a fair amount of wait after passing the barrier and finding a few vehicles ahead I had not seen around the corner of the building. The wait was due to every other parking bay blocked off for social distancing, meaning fewer vehicles unloading at a time. Otherwise, unloading and finding the correct recycling chute was straightforward.
