Camframe

I have visited Camframe last week with a small painting that needed to be framed for a present and was taken aback by helpfulness, kindness and speed of completion of the order. I had 3 children with me and the owner kindly showed them around and explained how framing is done. Very reasonably priced an absolutely outstanding service. Totally recommended!

Camframe did a lovely job reframing a favourite picture of mine after it fell off the wall during lockdown. I picked it up today, and it's beautiful. They were very helpful in advising and recommending types of frames that would suit the painting. And they listened carefully to my preferences, and likes and dislikes. Would definitely recommend and use again. Added bonus is that there is free parking immediately outside, so this made drop off and collection very straight forward.

Friendly, affordable and prompt service. I went in there expecting my frame to take a week or two. It was done on the spot! Unbelievable! And for a very reasonable amount of money.

Very happy to recommend. Two old printing presses still turning out hand made prints with a picture framing business attached. No money has been spared on overheads or even a reception, so you know you will get value for money.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY AND MONEY

My review echoes that of Sarah. My experience was terrible from start to finish. Very simplistic design suggestions at first appointment and price-wise definitely not competitive. This has more characteristics of a scam than a business. After 2 weeks delay to frame 2 medium paintings and a large canvas I received a message saying that he had recalculated the price and now if I wanted the canvas in a mount (as originally agreed) I needed to pay an extra £60. That is after paying £225 for the entire service and in two occasions having agreed that the price I was being charged included everything I wanted. In one occasion he even referred to his calculations to say "I can see you ordered the mount because of the price".

Additionally, the first time I went to collect my medium paintings he had framed them in the wrong colour. When I complained he said he would change and later he brought that up by saying in a message “the frames have been changed to grey at no extra charge or quibble”, as if he was doing me a favour for doing his job and delivering it according to my specifications.

I would stay as far as possible from Camframe.

IF you feel stupid, adventurous, or don’t believe that almost 30% reviews are of 1 stars in July 2018, do make sure to:
- Don’t pay the full price in advance. You can pay a deposit. The only reason why he charges in full is because he knows people will complain and not want to pay the rest. If he was slightly competent and trusted what he was doing he wouldn’t ask for advance payment in full.
- Make sure that the worksheet has not only codes but a description of the service, and that you get a copy of that. He referred to his work sheet as means of proving he was right, when the work sheet had clearly been altered from the first time I was with him. You should make sure to get your copy and that other than codes you have the translation what the code mean in layman words so we are all speaking the same language.

Terrible experience from start to finish. I was unimpressed with the design suggestions - but that’s all subjective. I wanted 2 box frames done. The first frame they did wrong without the requested border or writing. I took that frame as I needed to gift it. THe 2nd they subsequently got wrong on another 2 occasions. When I said it was not what I asked for the manager flew off the handle shouting at me in front of my 2 small children. He then asked me to take it as it was. Having paid nearly £90 for the 2 frames I said I didn’t want to take what I had not asked for. He continued to shout until I asked for my money back. I have never experienced such poor customer service in all my days! They seem over- stretched, rude, not competitively priced and thoroughly unhelpful. Avoid!

I would not bother. I needed to get some frames fixed, I turned up on Monday (website said it would be open), called the number when I arrived as closed sign was showing. Man down the phone said only open 10-6 Tuesday till Saturday. Turned up Tuesday 5:30, closed sign showing again. I called again, man down the phone blames his son for telling me wrong time, then me for not hearing it right. I advised him to update his website, he said that he had asked whoever does his website to do the website to update it but the man had not got round to it. It’s very frustrating having to make several trips to get something done, even worse when someone blames things on everyone else and does not take ownership.
