Great coffee, the scones were amazing! All the cakes and scones made in house. All the staff was lovely and they have a great selection of food and drinks.
Will definitely come back !

We were going to go for ice cream but we got distracted by cake. In particular, the Lotus Biscoff cheesecake served in half a chocolate egg. Yes, you heard that, right. It tasted as good as it sounds, too.
I'm assuming the place is family run because the lady and gentleman that served us we so nice and welcoming. It was more like going to a mates house for tea and cake.
I like Matlock Bath anyway, but this will have me coming back again.

Called in when visiting as looked inviting, this venue does not disappoint. Lovely clean restaurant with friendly staff happy to help. Lovely clean loo too which is a great indicator of the care by owners.
Cream tea was yummy and coffee served extra hot as requested. All staff were busy but had time to chat and have banter with the customers. Such a lovely atmosphere and clear passion for service, would recommend and return! Price was also good value for money.

Staff is brilliant and helpful. I ordered sausage sandwich and a cake. Food is fresh tasty.

It's a really lovely place. Nice and clean. Plenty of stuff. Everyone was friendly lots and lots of cakes And they even accommodated making my daughter a sandwich that wasn't on the menu prices were very reasonable I would definitely go again

The staff were lovely and really welcoming to me and my dogs (they are super dog friendly with treats & offered us water for them too). This got us off to the perfect start.

I had a hazelnut latte which was scrumptious and perfect, my other half had a mint aero luxury shake. Both drinks went down a treat. The prices were really good too for the quality we got. The seats were comfy, the atmosphere was positive.

I'd highly recommend this place to any tourist or local, will definitely visit again.

Day out in Matlock Bath and we came across this gem, caught it just right as it got busy after we sat down, had a lovely cream tea with handmade scone and plenty of jam and clotted cream for each side.
The staff were awesome and the food was well priced, will make a b-line for 196 next we are up in Matlock.
And they are dog friendly.

Visited the 196 coffee lounge today and what a lovely visit it was, lovely coffee, amazing cakes and fantastic service!!! So warm and friendly will definitely visit again!! ☺

Lovely scones and cakes! Absolutely huge mugs of coffee to warm up cold hands on. We went back twice as its dog friendly and very cute inside - everyone who served us was cheerful and smiley.

Great coffee and homemade cakes sat outside and drinks brought to us very friendly service on a busy day. Enjoyed watching colourful Sunday crowds pass by motorcycles of all types going by and some interesting cars too. View down the road to steep wooded valley sides above the shops and houses in the high street and the river across the road unique fascinating place to visit.

11/10 This place is truly lovely. Absolutely everything on the menu is beautiful, both sweet and savoury food is absolutely gorgeous and the service is fantastic. It has such a cute and welcoming vibe and I love coming here, I would come to Matlock just for their fresh treats that are made daily, they are some of the best deserts I have ever had. Cannot recommend this place

Almost walked by, but someone recommended it whilst we were looking at other menus and we decided to walk back.
Friendly, helpful staff with a great selection of cakes including gluten free options. Will definitely return for the cream tea. Dog friendly which is always a major draw for me.

Had the most delicious scone and mocha. I am claiming that it was the best I've had (fresh, tasty and generous portion). Really worth a visit. The setting is lovely with quirky decor and nice touches like dominoes and cards you can use. Walk around Matlock Bath and pop in for a fab coffee and cake (loads of choice)😄

What a beautiful cafe with such friendly, hardworking staff that seem to take great pleasure in having you there. This is not forced and comes completely naturally to them. Even though we were only having a drink, they could not do enough for us. The owner was so helpful in assisting my dad, who is severely disabled, to get both up and down the few steps that lead to the toilet and the front step. Everything about the place is quality. Tea for 2 in a huge pot and an iced latte, for under £9. We will return for cake when next there, as they looked to die for! Thank you so much cafe 196 😃

Popped in this morning for a coffee stop with my parents and two girls. Most friendly welcome and excellent service. Along with really delicious coffee, scones and excellent milkshakes!

Such a lovely cafe. Warm and welcoming staff, great coffee and cakes 😋 dog friendly too. Next time we are in the area will definitely return here, especially for the toffee sponge cake!!

Went in yesterday for a coffee which was really nice. We walked past several other cafes before stopping at this one as it looked nice and inviting. Friendly staff and another bonus was very clean toilets which always makes a difference to what you think about a place. Will be back to try the food.👌👍
