Monica's Plaice

Visited Lechlade with my husband on a cold and windy day. My husband loves fish and chips so we decided to stop for lunch and came upon this fabulous fish and chip shop.
I don't normally eat fish in batter, but I have to say, that when I visit Lechlade again, I will head for Monica's Plaice straight away.
Very friendly and polite staff and it was exceptionally clean everywhere.
The meal was freshly cooked and not greasy. Chips were piping hot, as was the fish. The batter on the fish was golden and crispy, and the cod was meaty and cooked to perfection.

Pensioner portions are very generous. Fabulous fish and chips. Having a seat in the cafe to eat it is so much better as it's really hot and fresh. The cafe is no frills but very clean.

For once a review with no negatives.
From the warm friendly greeting this wonderful chip shop is faultless.
Immaculately clean thru out including the toilets.
We had two large cod's with small chips and teas,I can honestly say the best I can ever remember (I am 60).
I always put a negative down this time nothing to do with the business,car parking is limited during the wet months in lechlade.

Always a great meal, fish freshly cooked. Chicken kebab is massive and great value for money, lovely plaice, nice chicken burger with salad and always good chips. They even do a cheeky battered mars bar!

What can I say? Travelling through Lechlade, I stopped for a cheeky bag of chips and although the shop was busy the chips were cooked to perfection, golden brown, crisp outer but not crunchy, soft inner, add a good malt vinegar and salt and honestly the best chips I have had in a while.
Well done, guys. I will be back through and stopping again

Love this place. We usually buy from here on a Friday night when the husband is due home. He travels from Kelmscot, collects the grub and drives back to Stanford and the food is still really hot. Lovely tasty food. 100% recommend.

Excellent chippy (fish and chip shop). Large selection, but I went for the fish and chips and it was excellent.
There is a small restaurant at the rear where they serve if you want to eat in.
Absolute bargain OAP special of fish, chips, mushy peas and a pot of tea for £8:50.

Great portion sizes. Friendly staff. A large menu to choose from. I have visited a few times and I've always been impressed.

Pleasantly surprised by this place, relied on them twice on a recent visit. Telephoned ahead, all ready on arrival. Large portions for a reasonable price and above all decent food!

Excellent kebabs and Fish n Chips. A saving grace in the village.

Always clean and the staff are friendly, with hot freshly cooked food , and used by many of the locals, what more can you ask for!

I use Monica's Plaice quite often the Service is the best around the area and if I have been out with my Granddaughter to events the first choice for a good quality meal and a relaxing environment is Monica's, sometimes we sit in which I can recommend, or we park up and eat in my car.

Extremely good food, well cooked, good portions with fantastic, helpful and friendly staff. Set in a very well set up and spotlessly clean restaurant, as well as toilets. I will definitely be paying another visit, well worth the 30 mile drive.

If I could give more stars I would. The food is amazing perfectly cooked and good portion. The service recieved is second to none and quick considering there was 12 of us. Will definitely go again even of it is a 40 mile drive.

Fish was good quality Cod,freshly cooked in a golden brown batter. Chips were the same golden colour and not greasy. A lovely meal. We had Fish and chips here 4 years ago, they were good then and we were not disappointed this time either. Well done.

I'm new to Lechlade and the welcome at all establishments is great but this Fish shop is quite simply...Top Notch!! Chips not soggy and they use proper wrappings to keep them fresh, nothing too much trouble, so happy, smiley & genuinely friendly...even through the window when closed.
One BIG negative.....my stomach and weight after visiting them too often!

This place (no pun intended 🤣) was such a find. I was driving through Lechlade on the way home from Farringdon. I've never been there before and wasn't recommended the chippy but I'm so glad we took a punt and stopped. The fish was so flacky and light, the chips were proper chip shop chips and the staff couldn't do enough for us. 🥇

Perfectly freshly cooked meals every time for takeaway or dining in. Would definitely recommend the plaice. Generous portion sizes and always friendly staff make it a great value and enjoyable meal.

Popped in for tea tonight. Fresh,hot and tasty. Served with a smile and very clean area. It appears you can eat inside too. Will definitely be back
