Whiskey Trail

Great walk with a historical theme. This is a path that runs from opposite the end of West Street where it meets the A358. It runs up a slight incline to the railway crossing. This was formerly known as Marks Crossing after the Farmer who used to use it. When the Americans occupied Sandhill Park as a hospital between 1942 and 1945 the Whiskey Trail got it's name. It was called this after the Americans used to use it to go into Bishops Lydeard for a drink at one of the 4 pubs. The path continues down alongside the wall to Sandhill Park ( solar farm on left) and meets South Drive which was the main access to Sandhill Park. The footpath then continues towards Ash Priors passing the former home of Arthur C Clarke writer of 2001 A Space Odyssey.
