We had Sunday lunch at this lovely pub. Wow. As a gluten free sufferer it was wonderful to have a cauliflower cheese cooked just for me and gf gravy. The food was outstanding. We were going to have pudding but we were just too full. So pleased this isn't too far from us and we can enjoy this lovely pub regularly Dogs also welcome and they have an idyllic pub garden overlooking the river.

Lovely cosy though slightly remote pub serving really nice local ales and excellent food.
Well worth a minor detour to visit at Abergorlech.
I guess it's a sign of a strained economic crisis, but this gem of a local pub is only open part of the week. Worth booking as it's not huge and only has a few tables.
Good range of menu choice, based on fresh ingredients. We'll cooked, very tasty beef brisket.
We hadn't chosen a starter, but we were given complimentary fresh bread and dipping oil/balsamic to keep us amused whilst waiting for our main. Even more impressed that one was a lovely gluten-free portion.
Dog friendly too.

Sunday lunch is a must to try at the Black Lion. And you won't be disappointed. The staff are friendly and service is quick. There is a welcoming country feel restaurant room where dogs are allowed.
Starters are available but we went for the mains.
The family had Brisket with roast potatoes, parsnip and Yorkshire pudding. I had a homemade mushroom pastry. All were accompanied by dishes of vegetables - cauliflower cheese, mashed swede, red cabbage with pomegranate seeds, leek, courgette and kale and carrots. We even managed to polish off some delicious homemade puddings - chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding, hazelnut and coffee cream meringue, plum and apple flapjack crumble. And all very good for the price.

Wonderful and welcoming staff who were helpful and efficient. Food was very good quality & a real treat. Good selection of ales and lagers as well as spirits and wines. Beautiful location with the forest walks just down the road. Good outdoor seating area across the road / lane. Menu was very good with a nice selection all on chalkboard both inside & in the seating area. Dog friendly.

Brilliant pub, lovely beer, food was outstanding and everyone was really friendly.
Popped in with my two dogs after a local walk on the way home from a holiday further west. I'm really glad I did, had a vegetarian burger and it was fantastic, nice real ale from Tenby, and the dogs were really welcomed.
Amazing.

Food is excellent; they were very welcoming to children as they have a whole box of toys for them to play with and just asked what the children liked instead of sticking to the menu for them. And reasonably priced!

Our friends recommended it and booked a table for lunch. Beautiful pub and setting with seats across the road by the river. Could have stayed all day. The food was beautiful, we had 2 fish and chips, one pulled pork burrito and a Mexican veggie burger. Nice pint of Warrior ale as well. We will definitely come again.

Great little pub with good food and friendly people, the owner is a mountainbiker so next to being open to (muddy) bikers, he knows the local trails! I can recommend the black lion burger with cheese. (It doesn't contain any lion though...)

Nipped out for dinner and had lovely food here - lovely reception and a great chat before settling down to prawn cocktail to start and gorgeous homemade burger with chips for the main - loads of flavour and decent portions. Finished off with a rhubarb creme brule with a perfect crack. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Only stopped for a coffee and a drink and the chance to sit by the river in this glorious sunshine. It's been a while since we last visited and the garden has been given a bit of a makeover since our last visit. We sat in a stunning new wooden gazebo which is a real feature and provided some very welcome shade. The caramel latte I had was lovely and it was very pleasant and extremely peaceful just sitting chatting. Will definitely be going back for a meal soon, as the food we saw being served looked amazing.

Lovely pub, really cosy - just what you'd want in a tiny rural village. New owners now. Please ignore previous bad reviews they are not a reflection of now (December 2017). We're staying in a cottage in Abergorlech for new year and will be heading here for lunch, and maybe an ale or two, on New year's Day....
[And it was lovely, good food, good beer, good atmosphere... Ask for a bit of Perl Las with your mushrooms on toast, very very tasty :)]

Called by chance, enjoyed a couple of pints of trad beer. My other half chose a coffee which was very tasty. We chatted to Lynne the owner and were made very welcome. She told us about the village and surrounding area.we then decided to stay for supper(dinner).
We were treated to some delicious bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
I chose pan fried cod and my partner had the duck.
Both were served without undue delay and we agreed the dishes were exceedingly good. Very well cooked, tasty and piping hot. We each had a sweet, a trifle and rhubarb with whiskey ,ice cream etc. Excellent fare. We will return next time we are in the area. The Black Lion has free parking ,a beer garden, lunch menu and is open from 12 noon. Dinner service starts at 5.30pm. The pub welcomes, cyclists, walkers etc and is dog friendly.
