The Package Free Larder

Not at all intimidating! If you haven’t used a package free store before then don’t worry- it’s incredibly simple and the staff help you with what to do. Once you go once, then you want to go back and refill all your other empty bags and bottles! Give it a try.

Love the concept and intent. Such a lovely crew helping out. I generally only get one or two items at a time cos there's only so many empty jars you can carry. It always seems expensive but I will support when I can.

I've only been able to visit once but I was impressed at the range of products available! I bought a few soaps etc (which were lovely) and will come back with containers when I need shampoo, cereals, coffee, rice, pasta, sweets, nuts... the list goes on and on. Shop assistant was lovely and talked me through how it all works. It was clean but not clinical. Love it!

This place is a really a warming place. This is not a shop, or a business, but a cause an organisation to make our city a better place for both people wellness and the environment. It is inclusive of everybody in the process. I came in for cao cao powder but got soo much more than that in many other ways <3 one love.

I went in the package free larder today for the first time, a friend recommended me about them. The staff are amazing and so helpful. I bought a lovely coconut shampoo and conditioner. I washed my hair tonight and it is so soft. It must be because it’s very pure. I am from Newcastle and the water is a lot softer, I never find anything really makes my hair feel nice in the South. This stuff is amazing. I work across the road a few days a week. I will be a regular customer 🙂❤ Thank you Package Free Larder 🙂

Fantastic shop and well needed to reduce needless waste. I have used the package free larder since it opened and it's been brilliant since day one but it's great to see how quickly the range has increased. They'll always add suggested items onto the list and several of mine are now available. I end up visiting several times a week. Coffee beans, dried fruit, pasta, chocolate, yoghurt coated cranberries (beware these are highly addictive!) are my staples. They recently started doing eggs and some fresh fruit & veg. I must have saved a ton of plastic waste already. Definitely visit them when you can

We go here all the time for cleaning products, toiletries, tea, coffee and lots of foodstuffs such as pasta and rice. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Love it!

PFL (Package Free Larder) is great! You go in, weigh your packaging (jars, tubs, boxes or whatever), load them up and then take them to the counter. Pretty simple. It's mostly dry produce with a bit of frozen stuff. Large range of items. Spices, pastas, gluten free stuff, shampoos, washing stuff, loads. It's great.

Volunteer staff are in there to help out where they can. They're great and have worked really hard to try and make this shop a success, hopefully the idea will catch on too!

What an amazing place! Bring your own containers (or buy pre-loved ones once you're there) weigh them and fill up with a vast array of whatever you want! I have found that the Package Free Larder is comparable to supermarkets in terms of value - which is amazing considering the size of the shop! There really isn't any excuse to not give it a go - it's a great way to reduce your carbon footprint, run by a brilliant community of volunteers.

They currently have a sink outside as a COVID-19 measure, with a foot pump (to get the water).
Inside is spacious and the staff are friendly, great addition to the area!
Good range of products and they are happy to hear suggestions for more.

Great way to reduce your footprint by reducing plastic bottle waste. Bring your old bottles and you can fill up on washing up liquid, soap and body/hair wash, surface cleaners, washing detergents and fabric softener. That's just some of the stuff you can fill up on. Also does all your grains and nuts, legumes and other food basics that would come in plastic bags and bottles in your standard super markets. The whole shop is a great idea.

Brilliant concept and great store with helpful and friendly staff and volunteers. Really like the containers for hard to recycle plastics like toothpaste tubes etc

Great selection in the store with more stock being introduced frequently. Really great to be able to source plastic free alternatives locally instead of using online stores.

This is like going back to the future. A grocery shop like you might have seen 100 years ago, with everything served lose, but clearly the way all shops should operate in the future so we don't destroy the planet.

Really helpful staff. You can get the quantities you want and avoid waste.
