We had a wonderful time at Butina! As soon as we’ve arrived, we were welcomed with freshly homemade bite-sized food and liquor. Later, we had dinner that we arranged prior to our visit and we were blown away by the quality (and quantity!) of it. The rooms were absolutely stunning (kudos to Maja for her interior design ideas), clean and comfortable. Staff was welcoming and kind, as if you’ve just visited home :). Make sure to bring back some souvenirs for friends and family - they offer a great assortment of homemade goods!

We are two Hong Kongers, coming here for the Bears. Saw this high scored hostel in google map and decided for 1 night stay, ended up in 2 nights.

It was the most impressive stay in Croatia because of the homey and local experience. The host (Grandma) speak Croatian and German, with very limited English. But it’s not an issue as we have Google Translate nowadays. For one day Grandma’s daughter was here with us too and we chat a lot about our culture and she recommended many nice places to visit in Croatia.
You don’t expect a 5-star luxurious hotel experience but it’s very homey and adorable. The first room we stayed is clean and got a village feeling. The second room is more luxurious and modern. Both are very lovely! Very clean and got all you need. Marvelous view!!!
Food - so good! Honestly I didn’t know how much they cost when I ordered. They simply asked me if I take dinner/breakfast or not and I said yes, and you can tell them what you want and they cook. Love every food they make and a lot of ingredients are homemade / from friend’s farms❤ They will get you different menu everyday too! Price for 2 breakfasts and 2 dinner, for 2 person is around EUR80. 👍🏻
You are here for a home stay and enjoy the lovely house and environment they’ve built. Also 10 mins walk to the near. Definitely worth a stay!

One of the best experiences of our holiday. The food was SO good. No menu, they just fed us. Loads of food in the centre of our table to try. Great hospitality, rustic atmosphere, beautiful location. Price per person was very reasonable. Everyone was happy in our large group which included kids. There was even a few toys for the kids to play with whilst our food was prepared - outdoor BBQ which you can watch. Cash only so bring cash with you!

Lovely husband and wife team. We three English had a warm welcome and conversed in a mixture of Croatian, German and English. We understood that the couple ran a smallholding, keeping animals and growing vegetables. The food we were offered was fresh and home grown. There was no menu because they told us what fresh food was available. It is a traditional building with wood features. We sat inside due to inclement weather and enjoyed the warmth of the log burning stove. We returned for a second visit!

Drove past by chance and decided to stop to see if we could have dinner there. The owner is super friendly, and their food is just incredible. This place should have a Michelin star going by old purist standards. Not super fancy, just delicious authentic food in a farmland setting that makes the drive there totally worthwhile.

Very good local restaurant, warm welcome and very good food.
We stayed for the night with our van at the back of the restaurant .
Do not hesitate if you pass trought to stop .
They sell local product like sirup,marmelade..

We had a very good meal here. Food was fresh and high quality. Near the restaurant you can see sheep, goats, chickens, geese, ponies. This a side of Croatia you will not experience in the seaside resorts.

I always check the low ratings out of morbid curiosity and am at a loss regarding the criticisms. It is true that the service is a little haphazard but that's part of the charm an not annoying if you just take the place for what it is, which is like you are part of the family. This was THE most hospitable welcome that we have received in Croatia. The food was good quality simple fayre and there was so much that even with my healthy appetite I could not finish and the price was ridiculously low. The place is rustic (rather that cluttered and dusty as described in one 1* review) which is just what I like. One of the most enjoyable experiences and a great evening in what felt like real Croatia, rather than the over commercialised and overpriced coastal areas and national parks. One of those rare occasions where I wish that I could give an extra star.

took my daughters to bear refuge and stopped for lunch Dubravka the owner lovely lady that served us was very welcoming , the food was delicious and plentiful and if you are very lucky to meet her gorgeous granddaughter makes a great day into a fantastic day so if you are around the place definitely stop highly recommend it if I could give it more stars I would

Best lunch in Croatia during our one month holiday. Very friendly owners, authentic place with tasty food and drinks. Must visit if you are near.

All domestic food, amazingly tasty, you can buy food also, they have dogs there so yours is also welcome.
Great lunch for whole family and friends! Recommend to call and order ahead. But they are fast also if you just pop by.
Parking is free and at the back of the house.

Goodmorning to all life here and now, since 2004 we have been returning to Kuterevo (Lika regio) as volunteer for the brown bear shelter aka refugium,this time we enjoyed the wonderfull hospitality of the hostes Dubravka,Tomo and Maja together with the local women family staff 2× Vesna & Nikolina cleaning the rooms and helping out in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning, this is an amazing full of wonders place for a visit to enjoy the fully tastefull natural home grown food and drinks, we advise and recommend to spend a night or two to let yourself be healed to the natural way of life in all it's beauty, hvala ljepo Dubravka,Tomo, Maja,baba, lara a mara,Vesna,Nikolina a Vesna na super gosto na primstvu🤎💜🩵💚💛🧡❤❤

Our stay was really really pleasant!

Just passed this place on the way back. The owner was so kind to provide us a spot although the place was full. He even wanted to move a bench so we could sit comfortably. Nice local cuisine. Recommended!

If you are into homemade dishes in highly retro style restaurant be sure to visit this place. Owner is super polite, all food great and rich on plate. You can even arrange special dishes but with one day announcement. Be sure to have cash with you as they do not accept cards.

Had a really great time there together with my wife - wonderful dinner and breakfast. Really lovely people. We could even stay in the backyard with our camper van later in the evening. Hope to come back one day!

Excellent place I have visited twice and will be coming back when I again visit amazing Velebit mountain. As this is very popular place you are advised to book your place in advance and to select some of the specialties on offer. Food was excellent and service amazing as they were always around us offering us with welcome drinks as well as some locally prepared strong ones later. And they were like this with all guests. Atmosphere can be very nice and you will be seeing people from all over the world indeed. Place to visit to enjoy all your senses. There is large open terrace where we were seating in spring and closed space for our autumn visit.

We have visited third time and have again enjoyed triple peka (mixed lamb, veal and chicken with potatoes and other) or traditional way of preparing meat in wood burning oven. There was domestic spirit and traditional bread with cheese. While serving she explained that it was special long enduring bread prepared for husbands who went in Velebit for weeks. And for desert local specialty excellent ustipci (fritter or doughnut) with home made plum jam. I can just repeat my recommendation to visit this place when visiting Velebit.

We came back again but this time only 2 so we did not order in advance which is best thing to do. But soup was nice, and meat platte excellent as well as local doughnut with plum jam and that was again very nice supper after one more Velebit adventure.

As we have visited Velebit again we came again and ordered large mixed meat plate and soup as well as excellent ustipak (fritter) with local made plum jam. Service and food were as always excellent. My only issue is awful toillet that have to be renovated at once. But you need to visit this place never the less.

Must visit if in Kuterevo, excellent owners and very friendly. If you plan dining call one day in advance but they sell home made product and all is great. Must try home made sausage and product from raspberry like jam and syrup. We had all and can't wait to visit again to buy more. On picture bread made in peka and šljivovica, just excellent.
