Impressive mountain, beautiful scenery. Hiked from Glavaš Kijevo in September. Mountain that always awakes your inner being.

We visited in June, not many people, because it was a workday. We started from Glavaš and it took us 3.5h to the shelter near the top. Half way there is a water well where you can enjoy fresh and cold mountain water, and refill if you need to. The climb is steep but marked well and the shelter is new and has a couple of sleeping places. From the shelter there is another hour to the top.

A great peak. Kroatias highest. We climbed it via ferrata through Dinaridi : it was super difficult and make sure that you are a moderate rock climber before you try this one. We went down through Glavas

Dinara is a special mountain for Croatia and neighboring countries. The whole mountain range of Dinaric Alps / Dinarides that stretches from Slovenia to Albania is named after Dinara. The name probably comes from the name of Illyrian tribe which lived on the slopes of the mountain but there is also a possibility that the adopted Arabic word dinara (meaning wealth, treasure) was given to the mountain regarding it's natural sources, beauty and significance for the people. Dinara itself has a central position in Dinarides, it is around 85 km long, 10-15 km wide and it's highest peak is Troglav at 1913 m.a.s.l. As for Croatia, the country's highest peak is also on Dinara - Sinjal, reaching 1831 m.a.s.l. The way I see it, Dinara has all the characteristics of other Dinaride mountains - it is all karst but has areas of lush forests, high meadows, small fields, different fauna,... When visiting it don't be fooled by a relatively low altitude. The mountain is vast, the terrain rather difficult, it is easy to go astray, it's climate is hot but it can be winter-cold during the night or in bad weather. There are numerous functional mountain cabins and bivouacs along the trails. So take appropriate equipment and lots of water. One can experience true nature here (beware of beasts including venomous snakes) with great views. Enjoy :)

Beautiful mountain bordering Croatia and Bosnia. We went for highest peak on Croatia side Sinjal (our highest peak btw). We have started from Glavasi (Kijevo) and first you can see old fortification. Then you can choose between two mountain trails so I recommend to use both as they are around 3 hours each. Before you can choose there is nice mountain spring where there is drinking water available (I am not sure if in the summer it is also). Nature is amazing and that will be presented with pictures. On the peak there is small metal shelter and both trails are having mountain houses for rest. This is demanding hiking of around 14 km and you need at least 4-5 hours to reach peak. And I do not recommend high summer or winter. We went in June and northern wind called Bura was very strong but it was not hot. There are some woodlands where it is sheltered from wind and you can see that in the past it was full of cattle and people living there in summer. It was amazing experience, but you have to be ready for this.

No better place than a mountain peak, and in this case, highest point of Croatia, to look at world around you and inside yourself!

It's quite easy walk from parking in Glavas. Height to walk on is about 1200m, so it is something but there's no technical difficulties or dangerous walls. It took 6 hours go and get back. Mostly sunny so you should carry 1,5l of water as minimum. Trekking shoes are also mandatory, all the way there are rocks, and rocks, and rocks...

On the top, there is a little shelter with a box that contain a book of entries (bring a pen:) ) and a stamp (bring a piece of paper and an ink :) ).

Rocky terrain that is difficult to walk on. It was very windy and we got wet, so we turned back 45 minutes from the summit. Minumum 5-6 hours up.

One of my favourite mountain hikes. Very clearly marked trail. we started at glavas near the old tower and didn't even need our GPS or maps we took as the route is clearly marked all the way up with red and white painted markers. It is a long walk and usually very warm so be sure to take a few litres of water. There are also water points on the trail in case of emergency and even a few shelters.

Killer hike, very hot and exposed so make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen! There is a place to fill along the hike, but use your best judgement. I am no water expert.

Dinara is the highest mountain in Croatia, summit Sinjal on Mount Dinara (near Knin), with the altitude of 1831 meters. It is mostly open, hard terrain. These mountains are not recommended for the summer hiking, as there are almost no shade and water.
