Mosor

This is a pretty cool mountain range with multiple little peaks you can hike to. We started our hike down near split but had to cut it short because it started raining and a lot of the trail is actually going from rock to rock and it was getting slippery.

There is also a mountain hut that is open on the weekends where you can stay for the night.

Perfect location above Split and Kastela bay. Sunset can be spectacular as I will show with pictures. You can sleep here but do check before coming. Every weekend there is host here and it is always nice to spend weekend here. There are many marked mountain paths around and it can be easily reached from village Sitno Gornje directly or via mountain house Umberto Girometta.
I will present here also pictures from very beautiful Mosor peak above Dubrava village called Kozik or Sveti Jure for which locals thought to be highest as difference is very small and it looks very imposing. Beside Dubrava you can reach it from Dugopolje or from other peaks with nice marked mountain trails.
There is also very nice peak Istarska glavica just above Umberto Girometta mountain house with nice view and is very easy to climb.

This was my favorite part of my trip to Croatia. Hiking on Mosor mountain we saw hardly anyone else, which was a nice change from the crowds of Split. We didn't go all the way to the summit, but went to another spot about half way between the mountain house and summit that still had amazing views. Definitely come prepared with good shoes and plenty of water (although it is noticeably cooler than in Split). You can take a bus from Split to the town where the hike starts for cheap. It's a must do for anyone who likes to be a bit more adventurous when traveling!

Visiting Mosor Mountain was definitely the big highlight of my trip to Split! If you love hiking, you need to go to Mosor. Within 6 hours we hikes from the Mountain Hut (PL Dom) to Veli Kabal and Vickov Stup. Two amazing peaks of the area with a stunning view. The Mountain hut is famous for its local food, but be wary that it is only open in the weekends. Getting to the area is relatively easy with the bus (to go Gornje Sitno), but be coutious with the bus's timetable. In the weekends the bus does not go back to Split that often. We found out too late and got lucky with a hitch-hike back to the city. (We were done with the hike around 14:00, but realized that the first bus back would leave at 17:15...)

During the ascend we did not came across anyone, making the hike even more special. Again, highly recommended! Of course, bring enough water and food with you, dependable on the temperature. We went in October and has a lovely 24 degrees: We took around 2 litres of water per person which is definitely enough.

Great mountaineering experience. Dalmatian type of landscape(a rocky one) makes it a bit more difficult which makes it a bit more interesting. The staff at a mountaineering home is polite. Really could say I had fun.

Planina Mosor je deo dinarskog sistema , i proteže se od Splita do Omiša .
Najviši vrh je Ljuti kamen , 1 339 m.n.v.
Nešto niži je Mosor , sa 1 330 m.n.v. za koga se dugo smatralo da je najviši .
Na planini je planinarski dom , verovatno najstariji u Hrvatskoj , i namerno do njega nije doveden put .
Pod upravom je Pl. društvo Mosor - Split .

Mir, tisina, ljepota prirode. Prekrasan pogled na otoke Bisevo, vis, hvar, brac itd.

Sloboda, ljepota, zrak, priroda. Sve sta treba! 💚⛰
