Kostel Castle

Great little castle on top of a small hill.
There is a parking place, well marked and maintained 5-10 min walk from the castle depending on your pace. It even has a porta potty, that was clean and had lots of toilet paper when we were there.
The walk to the castle is not challenging and quite nice, but the last part is moderately steep.
The staff was friendly and they provided instructions on how to see the castle and the route we should take, since there is no guided tour. But everything is well marked and the sings are in English and slovenian, only the video presentation was in Slovenian, but there might be an English version.
They offer coffee (instant from the machine) and have a terrace infront of the castle, with a stunning view.
There is even a castle escape room, but we did not have the time.
Overall a nice experience.

Nice castle, still some restoration works in progress. Rich history and also avaliable game of "escape room". Helpfull staff and educated a lot. Nice view of river Kolpa.
Next to the castle are appartments available. Parking lot is free but a little bit further away from the castle (5 min walk)

Beautiful. Gotta make sure it's open for you in advance. Pathway from zrvnica good, down to mavrc a bit of a find your own.

An interesting castle, built anew according to the plans of Valvasor. A very friendly, knowledgeable guide.

Incredible castle with interesting history and amazing surroundings. Sadly it’s open only for escape room games.

Recommend visiting. Castle is open on weekends (FRI to SUN) and there is a guide at entrance who explains about castle history and history of area.

Worthwhile visiting!

Grad je zgrajen na skorajda nedostopnem skalnem pomolu in je zato osupljiv. Ker je bil to v prvi vrsti obrambni grad pred vpadi Turkov, je bil zato bolj skromno opremljen, poleg tega so ga Napoleonovi vojaki tudi zažgali. Kasneje so ga po edini Valvazorjevi sliki obnovili, zato zbirka na gradu ni obsežna, imajo pa zanimive predmete iz kmečkega življenja, še obširnejši muzej teh predmetov je v hiši pod gradom, ki ga vodijo in opremljajo domačinke. Vse to pa nadomesti vodička Tinkara, ki z žarom in zavzetostjo razlaga podrobnosti in zgodbe z gradu. Užitek jo je poslušati, saj črpa iz obsežnega znanja o gradu, okolici in zgodovinskih dogodkih v in okoli njega. Čestitke!

Grad trenutno zaprt ampak pot do grada in sama okolica zelo lepo urejena. Bravo.
