Csontváry Museum

What are massive surprise for uncultured Geordie… having never heard of Csontváry I was very excited to discover this museum.
I had my dog with me, which I thought would be a problem. However, Ava, the amazing lady on reception offered to keep him behind the reception. He is very well trained and exceptionally patient. I’m not sure this service would be offered for your average untrained noisy dog. However, I must say a massive thanks to Eva.

The exhibition is brilliant. It covers examples from the full range of his career. The pencil sketches are experimental and represent immediate that he was not himself all together comfortable in. However, they are amazing. The classics as I’ve now discovered are on full display, including an awe, inspiring rendering of the Tatra mountains.
This is definitely the highlight of my visit in Hungary.
The entry ticket was about €15 And well worth it.

What a delight this exhibition offers. A pinch of alienation, a kind of budding surrealism is applied to the representations of humans mostly playing secondary roles on paintings. Expect large canvases with bold colours and intense contrasts spearheading future abstract forms as the XXth century advances towards avant-garde art movements. Your senses will be captured mostly by depictions of nature and its underlying stories. You need space to acquire sensations transmitted by the paintings and here you will have plenty of them. This is a unique collection from an amateur painter that has his own peculiar place in art history.

Csontváry Museum is a great place to visit while in Pécs. They had two types of tours at the time I visited which was in July 2020. The paintings and archeological pieces tour. I went for the painting tour which cost 1500 huf for an adult and 800 forint for kids below 13. The archeological tour cost 1000 huf for adults and 500 for children. If you would like to take some picture shots, they will charge you 300 huf.

it is a must see if you're in Pécs, even younger kids (6-9) will be amazed by the size of some of the paintings (they are amazing regardless of their size of course)

Számomra a Csontváry 170 kiállítás kifinomult művészi utazást kínált, ahol a festmények gazdag palettája és lenyűgöző mélységű magyar nyelvű leírások ötvöződtek. A monumentális 20 négyzetméteres alkotások nem csupán grandiózus látványt nyújtottak, hanem a művészi zsenialitás mesterfokát is tükrözték. A művek sokszínűsége és a múzeum impozáns környezete kiválóan érvényesül, így mindenki számára elérhetővé teszi ezt az emlékezetes élményt, aki értékeli a művészi kifinomultságot és a kulturális gazdagságot.

A Csontváry 170 kiállítást néztük meg. Egy remek kis összeállítás volt a kezdeti festményektől az utolsó vázlatokig, közte pedig a termekben mindig volt egy részletesebb leírás (csak magyarul) a festményhez kapcsolódó értelmezésről, egyéb plusz információval. A 20 négyzetméteres festmények látványa igazán grandiózus élményt nyújt.

A kiálítást a lépcsőn feljutva jobbra érdemes kezdeni. A belépő ára szerintem egy kicsit magas, de műkedvelőként vagy csak érdeklődőként egyszer azért mindenképpen érdemes megnézni az egyik kiváló művészünk hagyatékát. A kiállítás vége fele található egy kronológia, ami segít a dátumok elhelyezésében.

A múzeum maga is impozáns, bár az utolsó terem falain megjelenő repedések nem tűnnek túlságosan bíztatónak.

Az időszakos Toulouse Lautrec kiállítás néztük meg. Ezen nincs mit magyarázni, művészet iránt kicsit is érdeklődőknek kötelező program.
A kiállításon elegendő tájókoztató, ismeretterjesztő anyag is olvasható, plusz megtekinthetők a PTE végzős hallgatóinak vizsgamunkái is.

Gyönyörű műalkotások közepette élvezhettem ez a csodaszép helyet. Az idegen vezetőnk nagy beleéléssel mesélt nekünk Csontváry művészetéről. Egy pompás helyen, nyugodtan nézegethettem gyönyörű festményeket.
