A spiritual and holy place. Full of divine energies. The temple closes in the afternoon from 1pm to 3:30 pm. The architecture of the temple is too pretty. I love the vibes of it. Photography is not allowed in the temple so I did not click much of the photos. Do visit this place. Also be aware there is a lady at the entrance of the temple who will forcefully give you the flowers and charge a huge chunk of money. Do not fall for the trap. Rest everything is pretty and bliss full.
No fees required. Entry is free of cost. If you want you can personally give the donation. Beautiful place in Karnataka with a rich history.

Amazing peaceful temple. There was barely any crowd when we went. We reached around 12.50 almost close to the closing time but had a great darshan. A must go temple considering its significance in the south Indian Ganesha Circuit.

Located 20 kilometers from Murdeshwar, this renowned temple boasts a rich history of 2000 years, dedicated to the deity Balaganapathi. We explored the sacred site during its 3 pm opening, enjoying a scenic drive through a reserve forest. The journey was enhanced by the warmth of friendly locals, and the temple itself exuded positive energy.

Shri Idagunji Maha Ganapati Temple (ಇಡಗುಂಜಿ ಗಣಪತಿ) is dedicated to the Lord Ganesha. It is one of the religious destinations near Murudeshwara. It is situated on the banks of Shravathi River.

There is Vinayaka Vana closer to highway, where story of Ganesha is depicted in the form of large idols. Dont miss to visit this place with kids!

It's a renowned temple located in uttar kannada district. It's 15kms from murdeshwar. If u are visiting murdeshwar, make sure to visit this famous temple. There is ample space to park vehicles. And from parking area one should walk around 300metres to reach the temple which has standing Ganapati idol. There are many stores on the way to temple where u find many standing Ganapati idols.

Shri Idagungi Maha Ganapati Temlpe . Tirth Kshetra dedicated to the god Ganesha. Idagungi town in Uttar Kannada , Karnataka, Bharat( India). Idagunji where the temple is located is a small village on the west coast of India close to the Sharvathi River which joins the Arabian Sea. It is close to Manki (Mavinakatte) and is about 14 km from Honnavara, 20 km from Kumta ,65 km from Gokarna, and 5 km from a road which branches from the National Highway NH66 Bharat (India), towards the west coast. Honnavara, the capital of the taluk in which Idagunji lies, and the nearest railway station is Manki railway station.

During the last phase of Dwapara, a sage ( Hrishi )by name Valakhilya was performing penance on the banks of river Sharavathi. The going proved tough due to many obstacles for the learned sage. The ommiscient sage( Hrishi) Narada happened to pass by that way once and the sage Valakhilya narrated his difficulties to him. Narada suggested that all hurdles could be overcome by the worship of Vighneshwara. Sage( Hrishi) Valakhilya was convinced and he requested Narada to help him in securing the presence of Ganapathi on the bank of Sharavathi from his abode in Kailasha. Sage Narada too in his wisdom thought that in view of the fast approaching Yuga of Kali, the holi precence of such a deity was a must on the banks of river Sharavathi. He made a pilgrmage to Kailasha and placed his request before the supreme power, Shiva and his consort Parvati. In their magnanimity they graced this part of the world by sending their son Ganapathi to the Sharavathi valley to bless the greet sage Valakhilya. The light of the Kailasha thus came to this valley and bless the land with his divine presence and to remain here forever in course of time the symbolic icon was carved by Vishwakarama the divine sculptor and consecrated at Idagunji. The image of Ganapathi has its own speciality in that instead of one it has two tusks and insteed of four hands only two hands. The sacred has a granite bell and does not have the serpent like around the big belly with a necklace around the neck and the delicate hairlike stand scarved in stone at the back of the head. It is really an imposing lovely statue. Its age is assessed to be more than two thousand years. The devotees goes into meditative state in a most natural way by concentrating on the image. It has the fame of showering grace on the devotees who aspire for such a grace. The Pilgrim centre is a live one. The importance of the temple is attributed to a legend, occurring at the end of the Dvapara Yuga (the third Hindu epoch or era) before the onset of Kali Yuga (the present epoch or era). Every one feared the advent of Kali Yuga, as the god Krishna was about to leave earth for his divine abode at the end of Dvapara Yuga. Sages ( Hrishi )started performing austerities and prayers seeking Krishna's help to overcome all impediments of Kali Yuga. Sages led by Valakhilya started rituals in Kunjavana, a forest area on the banks of the Sharavati River in Karnataka which joins the Arabian Sea.
At the request of the sages, Narada selected a site for the rite on the banks of the River Sharavathi, at Kunjavana, seeking Ganesha's intervention. Even the Hindu Trinity (the gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) had visited this place in the past to bring an end to the demons who were involved in destroying the earth. The gods had even created the sacred lakes Chakratirtha and Brahmatirtha at that time. Narada and the otherHrishi created a new sacred pond called Devatirtha. Narada invited the gods and requested Ganesha's mother Parvati to send Ganesha. The rites were performed and hymns recited extolled Ganesha. Pleased by their devotion, Ganesha consented to remain at the site to help them conduct the rituals without any trouble. On this occasion, one more lake was also created and named as Ganesha-tirtha to fetch water to the temple. The same location is now called the Idagunji, where the Ganesh Temple was built by the devotees around 4th-5th century CE.

Idugunji is home to the unique form of Bala Ganesha, depicted with only two arms and both tusks intact, exuding a cheerful demeanor towards the world below. He remains one of India's most revered and celebrated deities, symbolizing empowerment for all. Remarkably, this idol dates back to the 1st century, making it one of the oldest known discovered idols.

Best one is PANCHAKHADYA is prepared specifically for Lord Ganesha as a special offering in this temple. This prasada comprises a blend of milk, ghee, curd, honey, jaggery, fruits, raisins, dates, and various types of dal.

The tale I learned from there recounts that the temple is devoted to Lord Ganesha. He stands with two hands, clasping either a lotus flower or his mother. Legend has it that as the Dwapara Yuga neared its end and Lord Krishna was preparing to depart from Earth, sages, concerned about the absence of Krishna's protection from demons, approached Sage Narada for assistance. Narada, in turn, appealed to Goddess Parvati. She sent Ganesha in response. The sages worshipped Ganesha at this location with arugampul (a type of grass), seeking protection from the challenges of the Kali Yuga. Pleased with their devotion, Ganesha vowed to stay throughout the Kali Yuga, guiding devotees away from adversities and guiding them towards a harmonious and prosperous life.

Nice temple, we have to walk 200m from parking downhill and come back uphill. Temple doesn't have steps. But for washing feet we have to go down about 20 steps and climb up.
Food is served only in the noon from 1 to 2:30 by the temple.

Beautiful Ganesh temple and the surroundings. The Ganesh murthy was created by none other than Dev-shilpi Vishwakarma more than two thousand years ago at the request of Maharshi Walkhel. It is a must visit for all Hindu devotees as I have not seen such a nice idol of Shree Ganesh anywhere else. The drive to the temple is very beautiful, lot of greenery, mountainous road.

Located In uttara kannada, on river sharavati.
More than 1500 years old, Valakhilya tried performing rituals but failed due to demons hence narada gave a plan to call ganesha to this place and worship him.
Hence shiva, Parvati,Vishnu and brahma came to this place to wish ganesha and send him here.
The Ganesha idol is seen an a very short one which short legs and in standing position.
The location is pleasant and parking space is available.
