This morning, my visit to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary provided a serene escape. With its sparse crowds, the sanctuary allowed for peaceful exploration of its meticulously maintained grounds.

Witnessing a diverse array of nesting birds, including painted storks, herons, egrets, kingfishers, and cormorants, was a captivating experience against the backdrop of their natural habitat.

Adding to the adventure, we spotted crocodiles sunbathing along the sanctuary's waterways, further immersing ourselves in the wildlife.

Additionally, the sanctuary provided convenient amenities such as snack vendors, water stations, and clean toilets, ensuring our comfort throughout the visit.

With ample parking available, reaching the sanctuary was stress-free, enhancing our overall enjoyment of this memorable excursion.

Refreshing place in the Summertime picnic.

First time when I was in Metric Class and enjoyed the boat 🚤 ride and crocodiles🐊

This time 🕰 it is totally different experience as I watched so many birds and it’s birdsong, bird nest, catching fish, bird drinking water.

Visit the Dr. Salim Ali information centre before entering into the sanctuary.

Birds characteristic, different beaks, its colour, Birds hatching 🐣, baby birds, Birds testing the tree branches to build the nest🪺 🪹

Watching point like tower and sitting benches, rest rooms are maintained well.

Shopping centre is not having anything related birds.

You can easily spend one day if you are really an occasional Birdwatcher.

I spent 3 hours but definitely I will visit again only for Ranganathittu only.

Kids really do enjoy the crocodiles and boat ride.
Don’t miss to have an ice-candy over there.

Car parking fee isn’t good.

A MUST Go in Mysore. The boat ride was so amazing and enjoyable. I have been to Mexico to watch wild flamingos and in Hong Kong wetlands watching the migratory birds. However, nothing can be compared to this bird-watching experience. We were so close to so many birds - tens of thousands - it's the peak season in March. Also the variety of birds is just impressive - different types of storks, pelicans, spoonbills etc. You see them feeding their chicks, building their nests, mating, flying across the water with their beautiful wings stretching out.

Visiting Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped into this serene haven, I was captivated by the symphony of bird calls and the picturesque landscape that surrounded me🤩.
The lush greenery 🌲, tranquil waters🌊, and diverse avian species made every moment magical. Exploring the sanctuary's winding paths, I was treated to mesmerizing encounters with vibrant kingfishers🐦, graceful herons, and scary crocodiles 🐊 and majestic eagles 🦅, among countless other feathered inhabitants. The knowledgeable guides added depth to the experience, offering fascinating insights into the sanctuary's ecology and the behaviors of its resident birds. The boat ride 🛶 along the river provided a unique perspective, allowing me to witness the birds in their natural habitat up close. Overall, my visit to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving me with cherished memories and a profound appreciation for the wonders of nature😍😃.

It's really beautiful watching so many birds in a single place. We visited in March ending by the time so many birds started going back so a variety of birds are less comparatively. Plenty of parking available.

Liked spending our morning here spotting birds. Couldn’t go for boating due to water levels, but had good time. Don’t expect a huge area to cover.

Entry ticket is 75rs per adult. Camera charges 150 for under 200 mm and 600 for above 200mm.

Absolutely loved it here. Check out the crocodile pictures and videos I have attached at the very least. The entrance fee is 75 per person for the park itself. For the boat ride which I would suggest you do the same is 100. Please do this early in the morning or in the evening as you will see birds leaving for food in the morning or coming back in the evening. There are many crocodiles in the area too 🐊. One is of 15 feet in length. The bask on top of the rocks in front of you. You will easily catch 15 different types of birds on top of trees here. For this we have to thank Dr Salim Ali for pushing the Mysore King for preservation of this area. The boat ride is excellent with the guide , guiding you around.

One of my favourite places to bird. The boat ride lasts about 45 minutes. October to March is a good season as you get to see migratory birds. Avoid weekends.
Only issue is that it opens at 9am. It should open at 6am for better birding

We visit the bird sanctuary in the last week of November and it’s the starting season of migration. The weather was amazing and we took the private open boat option.

Pricing
Private : 2000 rupees for a family
General : 175 rupees per person

There were not a lot of birds. We saw pelican, Japanese birds and a few other local migratory ones with a lot of crocodiles. Would recommend coming in January for viewing the migratory birds.

Overall a must visit place and had an amazing experience!

We went on 19 March 2024 and there were so many migrant birds like stork, pelican. It felt like a scene straight pit of jungle book and was fascinating to know that these migratory birds have come in from Australia, Siberia etc.
Just to add to the fun, there were crocodiles (relaxed only) also in the water which keeps your heart beat raised only.

Our visit to this location with friends and kids was memorable. The boating experience was truly incredible, providing glimpses of crocodiles and a variety of birds. The children were thrilled observing avian and reptilian inhabitants. Additionally, there's a kids' play area and a petite glass bridge offering a unique walking experience, though the glass is visibly scratched. The expansive lawn area adds to the overall charm.

This is the season of birds migration. Find variety of birds and it's melodious chirps. Crocodiles are lying on rocks can be seen. Boating is must to see and enjoy birds. Boat guide will give information about the birds. This time river water is less as there is no proper rain.

Loved this place. Very well maintained. December and January is the best time to visit as lots of birds migrate here in this season. Various kind of birds one can see here along with crocodiles. DSLR cost us 500 rupees more entry free. Boat ride is worth to wait. Waited for one hour in queue as it was long weekend.

Great place to see many birds including storks and pelicans had a great time as a family.
Got a glimpse of crocodiles as well
The regular boating takes you around the main sites while the special boat available at particular times takes you deeper.
Has got a well maintained Visitor Center , walking paths as well as watchtowers
Glass Bridge is opaque
Souvenir shop is good
Since we went on a holiday the wait time for the boat was 1.5 hours.
But the Birdlife makes it all worth it

What a wonderful experience it was to make an unscheduled stop at Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary. They have ample car parking. Charges for 4 adults and 1 child including the boat ride was 700 rupees.

This was not my first trip. But every time I go there i see something new

- A tree full of fruit bats in broad daylight. Never seen anything like that in my entire life
- Crocodiles swimming next to the boat
- Sighting some of the rarest birds
- Learning about all the migratory birds and their journey from the well informed boat guides
- Enjoying the serene, pristine and isolated environment

It was truly magical and i absolutely enjoyed it
