The place mother Mary appeared to a kid and asked for milk in 16th century. Even after giving the milk, container was brimming with milk

on a pleasant daybreak in the 16th century a milk boy was carrying milk from Vailankanni to his landlord’s house at Nagapattinam as per his daily routine job. Despite the morning freshness, fatigue overcame the little dutiful boy as he was usually passing by a certain water pond. So he rested awhile at the foot of the banyan tree but fell into an unusual slumber. All of a sudden he was startled to see in front of him a most enchanting child of divine complexion. Both the woman and the child wore celestial halos around their heads. As the boy was still in the land of shock and surprise the woman asked of him some milk for her child. Filled with reverence and awe the boy offered the milk. The heavenly smile of the child and the mother, was the only acknowledgement. The landlord of Nagapattinam who became very impatient due to the late coming of the boy did not believe the boy narrating the incident that had taken place at the water pond and scolded the innocent milk carrier. To the fear and astonishment of all those present, the milk in the pot began to surge over and flow out incessantly. Being dragged into the world of faith the landlord reached the place of apparition and believed in the Mother who appeared near the pond. This place since then was begun to be called, ‘ Our Lady’s Tank ’.

Place of miracle is velankanni. This place is special for all pilgrimages , visit here and get the holy water from our lady's tank.

This Church one of the famous Church in Tamil Nadu. Near by beach very beautiful place.

The church is huge. It is very tidy and peaceful. Upon entering the church, the atmosphere really calms your mind. The carvings of sculptures and everything inside is beautiful. The Goddess here is considered to be one of the most powerful and since this is a very old Church, it is a quite popular tourist place. There is also a well inside the Church premises which contains holy water. A also small filling station kind of place can be found where you can buy bottles and fill the holy water here. You can find a lot of devotees praying the God and enter the Church by walking on their knees for around a kilometre distance. Construction is going on around the Church to upgrade a few things. The maintenance here is top notch.

Holly water can be obtained from here. If you want to get water in a bottle shaped like Velankanni matha, you just go to the offering counter near the well and buy it for ₹20,₹10..

Mary Matha first appearance to a milk selling boy. We can still find the well of water here. It is still fresh, people take the water from here to the home in the belief that the water cures their health problems. It is surrounded by good number of trees giving cool shade. Wheel chair entrance is there. Rest rooms are available.

Sometime during the sixteenth century, Our Lady with her infant son appeared to a Hindu boy carrying milk to a customer’s home. While he rested under a Banyan tree near a tank (pond), Our Lady appeared to him and asked for milk for her Son and the boy gave her some.
On reaching the customer’s home, the boy apologized for his lateness and the reduced amount of milk by relating the incident that occurred on his way.
On inspection, the man found the milk pot to be full and realized that something miraculous had happened. That man, also a Hindu, wanting to see the place where the apparition occurred, accompanied the boy. When they reached the tank, Our Lady appeared once again.

On learning that it was Our Lady who appeared to the boy, the residents of the local Catholic community became ecstatic. The tank where the apparition took place is called “Matha Kulam” or Our Lady’s tank.

Nice divine place to rest your mind. But most of the time people make too much of noise and disturb.

Walking path from main shrine is good and paved with sand inbetween. Enough places and benches to sit along the way for elderly. Few snacks counter for kids and to quench your thirst especially in day time during summer. You could bring your own food and have here didn't see any sing saying other wise. Toilet facility available as well

It's located opposite to the main church. The way is filled with sand for people to walk by the knees. On both sides we have the mysteries of the Holy Rosary. We can reach the tank reciting the Rosary.

A small shrine with the miraculous well infront. The well is considered to be divine as Mother Mary was believed to be appeared near this well and those who drinks water from this well got healed from several diseases.

The shrine is beautiful and is at the end of the holy path with a lot of trees near by. In short it is the heaven people find after crossing the pain through holy path, where people find a final place to rest in shades and have divine water.

The first apparition is said to have occurred in May 1570, when a local shepherd boy was delivering milk to a nearby house. Along the way he met a beautiful woman holding a child, who asked for some milk for the little one. After giving her the milk, he continued on his way, and upon making the delivery discovered that the jug was now completely full of fresh, cool milk. A small shrine was built near the site where the boy encountered the woman, a location that came to be called Matha Kulam, which means Our Lady’s tank

OUR LADY'S TANK :around 16th century, our Lady of good health appeared to milk boy and blesses him over the bund of this tank from then onwards this tank is known as our lady's tank. The water in the tank is believed to be sources of divine grace. This artistic chruch was built in apparition of our Lady to the milk boy. The painting on the alter depicts this important miracle that constitutes the devotion of our Lady. A must visit church if your visiting velankanni seek the blessings of mother mary and she will relive you of your difficulties and burden.

You can experience the true presence of Almighty God through the intervention of blessed Mary here in velankanni shrine and also in the retreat home which is somewhat isolated from the main crowd atmosphere of the shrine, especially those who need to get a good confession and make your life moving towards the Almighty God , you have to attend the retreat and specifically the confession Sacrament ,then the anointing of the Holy Spirit session on the final day of the retreat , you shouldnot to miss the innerhealing experienced in Eucharist adoration session.
