Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health

Marian shrine that has been a site of devotion since the mid-sixteenth century. The shrine is attributed to three separate miracles that are believed by devotees to have taken place at the site. These include the apparition of the Madonna and Child to a slumbering shepherd boy, the healing of a handicapped buttermilk vendor, and the miraculous rescue of Portuguese sailors from a deadly sea storm. Initially, a modest chapel was built by the Portuguese in Goa and Bombay following their safe arrival ashore after a severe tempest. Since then, an annual novena is celebrated at the shrine, drawing nearly 5 million pilgrims each year. It is worth noting that Pope John XXIII raised the Marian shrine to a significant status due to its historical significance and the miracles associated with it.

Divine and holy place. Well maintained with security everywhere. Wonderful architecture and amazing designs. Prayers with faith in Mary are heard. They have stalls with books, holy articles like rosaries, holy oil, holy water etc. Thousands of pilgrims visit the church every day. You need 1 day to visit all the shrines at Velankani.
Weekends are mostly crowded. Hence I would suggest that you visit during the week days. Must visit in your lifetime. The sea shore is close by. Pilgrim accommodations are available, Also lot of hotels are available near the church. Parking and toilet facilities are available and maintained well.

During my visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Vailankanni, India, I was truly awe-inspired by the spiritual atmosphere and the sheer beauty of this sacred place. Had good darshan of our beloved Annai Velankanni. Stayed in Seagate Hotel, a good place to stay from where it's easy to go to basilica. Had a divine and pleasant stay.

Must visit place once in a lifetime. This place will give you inner peace. Mother Mary will give blessings to everyone. Mainly the museum of offerings is must visit place there. The mother Mary can cure any health issues, if you pray with truthfulness. That's why mother Mary is also named as lady of Health.

A beautiful Catholic church in Tanjore, calm and quiet to pray peacefully.

One of the amazing and great infrastructure in shrines category. The architecture of the church and inside paintings are simply mind blowing. This place consists of more than 6+ church shaped structures which are clean and white gives a good view. I visited during night time and it is more beautiful than morning during night. The lighting’s and colours of lights gives more beauty to the buildings and walls. Thousands of people visit here on daily basis and shrine room bookings would be full every time. Better book rooms earlier before reaching there or you can get many private hotel rooms around this area. This is more than 6 and half hours far from Chennai and around 2 and half fat from Pondicherry. Better book the bus before going as RTC buses take a very long time and no direct buses to here from Pondicherry. Overall this is an amazing place with churches, good atmosphere, Jesus statute and different idols of Mother Mary.

Excellent pilgrimage of our Lady of Good Health. There is plenty of choice of hotels to stay, and many restaurants are available for all price ranges for families.
Many mukti linguistic Holy masses throughout the day. Sacraments of reconciliation ( confesions) done timings and priests are available in English, hindi, malaylam, konkani,Tamil, etc. And say your penance in the beautiful eihraituc adoration chapel close by .
Many sacrmanetals gifts,medlas, rosaries, pictures,sataites, candles oils, and blessed flowers and gifts can be brought from the shrines gidt centers at very affordable prices.
Over all the lower and upper basilica churches, main mother church, and morning star church pre ises afe coean hygienic and well maintained.. These lovely memories made by trip a Holy and rejuvenating spiritual journey of my life towards God. MUST VISIT ANNUALLY, especially in the festive season of our mother on 8th sept. It's worth the journey. GOD BLESS🙏
