At first glance, it appears as normal Buddhist Caves like Kanheri Caves. But after visiting the adjacent Museum, I realised the special charm of it. One can enjoy a huge number of very good quality paintings, which are preserved very nicely. Once upon a time, all these ancient paintings were in those caves. Due to water seepage, those paintings were on the verge of destruction. Archaeologists, Govt authorities and scientists painstakingly done cave lamination, removed from these caves and preserved in the adjacent Museum.

Bagh Caves are really amazing and wonderful place in Madhya Pradesh ( Dhar district). It is astonishing to think about them that how they were constructed and in such a manner that today also they are in much better condition than any other present day' s building which hardly remains for 20-30 years. I really grateful and thankful to the Almighty who gave me an opportunity to visit this historical place. One can enjoy a day picnic cum educational tour.

The Bagh Caves are a group of nine rock-cut monuments, situated among the southern slopes of the Vindhyas in Bagh town of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh state in central India. These monuments are located at a distance of 97 km from Dhar town. These are renowned for mural paintings by master painters of ancient India.

The Bagh caves, like those at Ajanta, were excavated by master craftsmen on the perpendicular sandstone rock face of a hill on the far bank of a seasonal stream, the Baghani. Buddhist in inspiration, of the nine caves, only five have survived. All of them are 'viharas' or resting places of monks monasteries having quadrangular plan. A small chamber, usually at the back, forms the 'chaitya', the prayer hall. Most significant of these five extant caves is the Cave 4, commonly known as the Rang Mahal (Palace of Colors).

They are believed to have been built during the 5th-7th century. Archaeological Survey of India has restored the place over 17 years.

-This place is 6 kms from Bagh village and 55 kms from Main road(Rajgarh).

-The road inside the bagh village which we had to pass to reach caves was congested and narrow market road is headache, big SUVs can't cross it easily.(I don't know if there's any Bypass road).

-This caves are not in it's original form, it's restored by ASI and original painting are stored in museum located in the premises. Caves needs much protection as there's no security and local children were playing cricket during my visit.

-The premises has beautiful garden and full of big trees. Washroom/toilet located near entry gate. Baghni river edge was full of plastic bottles and chips' packages garbage thrown by visitors.

Good historical place. Nice work by Archeological Survey of India ASI, it's a place located near bank of baghni river where Buddhist caves are being carved in 4th to 5th century BC. It's a very nice and clean place to visit. ASI should arrange some guide on this place. A museum is also being manage by ASI in the same premises... The approach road is quite narrow but at times you love to drive in such narrow roads sorrounded by greenery every where. A single visit is must if you are going or passing by the route.

5th to 7th Century 9 big size old heritage buddhist caves with magnificent meditation Halls and viharas with the Stupas. Its the living proof of the culture, values, tradition of India's great Buddhist tradition and grandeur. Unfortunately local uneducated people infested with mythological, false stories as usually says its a Padav Caves. This is the proof that shows the ancestors of the villagers in the adjoining areas where buddhist at one point of time were highy educated and intelligent than their present offsprings and generation.

Bagh Buddhist Caves, a historical landmark located in Naingaon, Madhya Pradesh, District Dhar, is a fascinating site that offers a glimpse into India's rich Buddhist heritage. As I ventured into the caves, I was immediately struck by the aura of serenity and spirituality that enveloped the surroundings.

The first thing that caught my eye was the impressive rock-cut architecture of the caves. Carved meticulously into the hills, these ancient caves boast intricate designs and intricate sculptures that showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of the time. The detailing on the statues of Buddha and other deities was awe-inspiring, with each figure emanating a sense of tranquility and enlightenment.

Exploring the interior of the caves was an enchanting experience. The dimly lit chambers created an atmosphere of mystique, making it easy to imagine the lives of the monks who once inhabited these sacred spaces. The caves' walls adorned with vivid frescoes and murals depicted various Buddhist stories, serving as a visual narrative of the religion's profound teachings.

I also appreciated the well-maintained pathways and informative signage, which provided historical context and background about the caves. It made the visit even more enriching as I could understand the significance of each structure and its relevance in the larger Buddhist history of the region.

The surrounding landscape added to the charm of the place. Lush greenery and a peaceful atmosphere created a perfect setting for contemplation and meditation, allowing visitors to connect with nature while immersing themselves in the spiritual ambiance.

Overall, Bagh Buddhist Caves left a lasting impression on me. The historical and cultural significance of the site, combined with its architectural marvels, make it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, spiritual seekers, and curious travelers alike. If you're in Madhya Pradesh, I highly recommend exploring this gem that truly embodies the essence of ancient Buddhist heritage.
