Late review (visited in May).Beautiful quiet place. Typical Kerala style architecture and well managed temple. When I visit such temples, I start wondering why all temples in the country can't be managed the same manner.

This ancient temple is renowned for its unique representation of Lord Shiva in the form of five lingas (Panchalingeshwara), symbolizing the five aspects of the deity.

I loved the style of architecture, location is fabulous and temple have a big lake so we can spend time watching it.
Although very grand jatra celebration is held here I suggest you to visit on normal days rather than any festival days for peace and if you really want to enjoy architecture.
Its mainly famous for its bedi (crackers) festival during jatra.

A beautiful huge newly built temple. Although it had its bramakalashotsava recently, this temple is magnificently built in an old style. I have even heard they used techniques of olden days such as dipping the wooden pillars in oil to give it a natural essence polish.

It is also 14 km from Puttur and 40 km from Mangalore. Vitla was an assembly constituency of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, but discontinued from 2008 elections. Agriculture is the main occupation of people in and around Vitla town. Arecanut, cocoa, pepper, Cashew and coconut are grown here. There is a regional station of Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) which conducts research on areca nuts, an important commercial crop in the area. It also researches cocoa growing, including its production, protection and increasing drought resistance.
