Dhankar Lake

Dhankar Lake is a high-altitude lake in Spiti Valley, in the Himachal Pradesh state of India. At an elevation of 4,140 metres (13,582 ft), it lies above the Dhankar monastery in the Lahaul-Spiti district and can be approached by a trek from the monastery.

The Trek is a good steep climb uphill for around 4-5 Kms in length and it took us 35 minutes to reach till top.
As we are habitual to trek at these altitudes therefore it took us less time or one can say the time which the localities generally take to reach the lake. But for others who arenew or beginners or not regular trekkers immuned to these altitudes should walk slowly one step at a time ,breath good andthey will be there in 1 hour or 1 and half hour.

Though we started our Trek from dhankar village at 6 in the evening, we were told by the locals not to trek now because it was too late, but we told them that we will be climbing quick and so they allowed us. By 6:35 we were at the top and it was a magical land with golden soil stars just begining to come out good amount of breeze blowing the yak were grazing and the sound of the water waves were just icing on the cake.

Also took some pictures and while returning also witnessed the starlink satellite and some red foxes also known as Vulpes Vulpes.

One can see the confluence of 2 rivers that is spiti & pin river from the topwhich was a beautiful site to watch overlooking the Dhankar village and monestry.

Please do not litter garbage outside or leave it there. Only use dustbins to dispose off and if you dnt find one then please carry it with you till you find the same to dispose off.
Keep Himalayas and mountains clean and green as being humans it's our duty to do so.

A beautiful, serene, peaceful place at altitude of 4100 mtrs. Dhankar lake is awesome. You have to take some efforts to reach here. Trek of around 2.5 kms from Dhankar village. Steep hill to be climbed to see this natural beauty.

One of the beautiful lake in entire spiti district. Situated in Dhankar village. The altitude of this lake around 13580 ft from sea level. It's about 2.5 km distance from Dhankar new monastery. I went there on 24th June. I started trek around 1 pm and reached there around 2:30pm. Entire Trek route is well marked but the path is very narrow and steep. Due to this one should walk slowly during this trek and carry sufficient amount of water, biscuits, chocolates etc.
I was there around 1 hour. The lake is surrounded by snow covered mountains but that time some portion of lake was dry and remaining portion was sufficient amount of water and water is crystal clear. During my visit I was really excited about dhankar lake and i must said it's a must visit place. The surrounding is so beautiful lush green pin drop silence. Thos who want meditate it's a best place to do that.bThis is a holy lake and bathing is strictly prohibited in this lake. So those who visit Dhankar village they should try to visit Dhankar lake once. It's a must visit place.

We trekked to the top. It took us around 1 hr to reach the top. Can skip if u have done some good treks but still i wont say to miss

I don’t have words to define the beauty of this lake….I have seen many lakes but it is very unique and have spiritual values.

It is believed thar Lord Shiva had visited and stayed at this lake during his quest for lord Vishnu. While Lord Shiva was busy with his search, his attendant Nandi drank some water from the lake. As a reward for quenching the thirst of this beloved Nandi, Lord Shiva blessed the lake to be filled with plenty of water. Another myth has that Lord Indra asked Lord Shiva to make this barren land fertile.

However, since Shiva was busy with his quest, Lord Indra threw his ax here, and a spring popped up — leading to the formation of the lake. The festival of Mouni Amavasya celebrates the same myth.

It lake has a beautiful trek surrounded by snow capped mountain peak. It is worth going to this lake. Pls ensure that you should carry enough water and eatables. Also, don’t not throw any garbage during your trek. Thank you 🙏

Lovely place on top of the Dhankar village. A small trek to Dhankar lake gives refreshing experience. Start small trek in the morning. A 50-60 minutes Trek to a beautiful place. One can see snow covered mountain on all directions. This is a small lake, so enjoy a complete round around the lake, spend 30-45 minutes and return to Dhankar village. Go to ancient a monestry at Dhankar village and spend the relaxing evening.

We reached this place after a 1.30 hrs of trekking and the view was so amazing that you will forget about the pain of trekking.
Also on the way to dhankar lake you will enjoy the view of hills and Dhankar village.

Dhankar lake is a small high altitude lake in Dhar in Spiti area of Lahul and Spiti. It takes about 3.0 km and one hour from the motorable point to reach this lake. Vegatation around it is scrub of hardy perennials and herbaceous annuals.

Located at an altitude of about 14000 feet, this lake is a good 1 hour trek from Dhankar village. Carry water, the climb is pretty steep though mid way on the trek I stumbled upon nice spring water coming down the hill in a pipe, easy to drink

Once up there, this magical lake changes colors, shimmers in the sun and plays multiple tricks on the mind all with a superb calming effect.

The stupa here is also ancient and I felt wonderful chanting a prayer here. Bumped into a fellow traveller (not tourist ) who was coming here second day on the trot to spot the elusive Himalayan Ibex

Less to be said about this enchanting lake, more to experience

The truth is that we talk about the lake itself, there is almost no lake, or at least there was almost no lake when I visited it in August 2019, but anything else is very very beautiful and definitely worth a visit! it is a very good place for camping bit to find water you have to go up on the right side of the lake a dig a little.. at least that's what we have done not to drink the lake's water! definitely don't miss it!!

For me the biggest highlight of my Spiti trip was Dhankar Lake trek ❤ Dhankar lake is situated above the Village of Dhankar at the height of 13570 feet in the middle of hills. I asked to some local people about the best route to reach there. As per them, one man made trail is already there which is around 2.5km to reach the sacred lake. I started 5AM for the short trek & took around 70mins to reach the lake from Dhankar Monastery. I spent more than 1.5hr around the lake and come back to my homestay by 8:30AM. During entire time span I was the only human being present, who explored the Lake that morning.

Due to the low or insufficient of oxygen level, in high altitude, it’s tough to catch your breath. The path to the lake is also narrow and steep. So one should ensure they have the right shoe for the hike. Also make sure you will carry Water, Dry Fruit & Chocolate while doing the trek. And most importantly carry a raincoat if you see the sky bit cloudy.

Frame taken beside the lake during sunrise. It's a hand held focus stack, as I didn't carried extra gear like Tripod during the hike. Exploring the Dhankar Lake was more important for me, specially in the first light of the day. Special Thanks to Indranil da, who first told me regarding the beauty of this lake.

Dashair and Dhankar Lake is considered as half man made and rest natural.Dashair and Dhankar lake is always attracting tourists all over India and abroad. A trip to Dashair and Dhankar Lake is a treat for the soul and eyes.

The reflection lake!

This is what you get when you get up early in the morning. Yes, the beautiful serene lake all to yourself. The vibes are surreal and ecstatic. Plenty of time to spend in solitude and immersing yourself in mother nature's magic!

It also make up an awe-inspiring vantage point to witness the confluence of two rivers (Pin & Spiti) and the famed fort of Dhankar in beautiful sunlight. To your company, you have the cool fresh air and chirping of birds...utter bliss it is!

Dhankar lake is a high altitude picturesque hidden lake situated behind a mountain at Dhankar. It takes around 1:30 to 2:00 hours trek to reach the lake from Dhankar village. However once you reach the beauty of the lake will take away all your tiredness.

Dhankar lake– is located near the Rohtang Pass that connects district Kullu with Lahaul. It is about 4,270 m above the sea level and it is also known as Sarkund. Nyc place to visit, a half hour to reach there from dhankar monastery to dhankar lake .

Gorgeous high altitude lake. Worth the trek from Dhankar village. Worth every pearl of sweat you expend to reach the top. A must see.

The route is quite straightforward and several arrows mark the way. Being vigilant will get you there.

The changes in the terrain from dry rocky, to shrubby is quite a transformation.

The beautiful lake can be reached by a couple of hours trek from the Dhakar village. Its one of the must visit Lake if you plan to visit Dhankar. The blue lake with amazing valley view is the major highlight of this place. Spending here for an hour give you a fresh feeling and memory for life time.

Which was fun and at last view of Dhankar monestry while hiking and dhankar lake itself was beautiful .

We visited this lake in the mid October time when most of the water is dried up. We couldn't get the blue colour water scenario, however due to the temperature the lake got frozen and didn't melt even at 11AM when the sun rays were falling directly on the lake.
It was a mesmerizing scenery. Very pleasant lake.
