This is a well maintained place with some very significant archaeological finds including the seals, tools, jewelleries, utensils, etc., used in the early and late Harappan phase. This helps picture how people lived around 3000 years ago, and how a lot of things still haven't changed. But you can't take photos inside. I wonder why!

Amazing place to know about Harappan culture, Bara Culture. Nostalgic. Staff was courteous. A good day out for kids. The museum is definitely our connection with the past and gives us an insight into how people lived about 2000-3000 years ago.

The Archaeological Museum in Ropar showcases the artifacts from the bygone era.
The museum is the testimony of the history of the area. It houses many items excavated from a nearby mound. Items excavated date way from the Harappan Civilization. Shells, Bangles, clay toys, earthen vessels are showcased here. The display here is impressive and is a must visit.
Entry ticket is nominal at Rs 5/person and the museum is usually not crowded. Parking space is small. You can also visit the mound which is just 5min walk away.

The place is absolutly amazing... My son had the Harappan Civilization's chapter in History. He really liked it... Lots of knowledge and great objects belonging to the Harappan Era...

It also has the site of excavation by it's side. And visiting the spot is allowed, but I would not recommend so as its a small elevated forest kind of an area, and I had spotted a MONGOOSE over there... So do take precautions...

Definately, the Museum is a must visit when in Ropar...

Ticket price is Rs.5/Person But online on the spot ...is situated on the bank of River Sutlej along the Ghaggar-Hakra beds. It is about 40 km north east of Chandigarh and it lies on Rupnagar – Chandigarh highway. In 1998, the museum was opened to the public.

Harappan Culture
A small but well maintained museum. it documents archaelogical discoveries (mainly pottery and coins) over 6 periods from Harappan (from 2000BC) to Kushana to Medieval (upto 1700AD)
The pottery and seal from Harappan era are interesting. The chronological order of representation makes you appreciate the progress made to some extent.

Museum has many excavated items, even dating 4000 years old. It tells how the Harappan culture spread and developed. It is closed on Friday so plan accordingly. Overall a nice place to visit.
