Maa Patneswari Temple

This is a temple complex with two historic temples together – the Ma Patneshwari temple for Durga and the Kosaleshwar temple for Shiva. The complex includes iconography of Vishnu and Surya, along with other gods and goddesses of Hinduism.

This a colorful temple, restored in the 20th century with a core layer of historic artwork. This is best seen in the beautiful pillars with intricate art here, particularly the Kosaleswar Mandir section. These include Shaiva, Vaishnava and Shakta artwork, as well scenes of dancers, musicians, yoga, kama-mithuna and Vedic legends.

Patnagarh used to be a important fort city of medieval era Hindu kingdom in Odisha. The Maa Patneswari gives the town the name Patnagarh. This temple complex has historic inscriptions, as well as an important stambha in the front. This is a lovely temple complex.

Pataneswari Temple is a 14th century shrine, located at Patnagarh, about 38 km from Balangir, in Balangir District of Orissa. It was built by Ramai Dev, the first Chauhan King of Western Orissa.
