This tomb and mosque was built by Tipu Sultan as a tribute to his illustrious father, Hyder (1722-1784 A.D.), after his death.

The Gumbaz is situated at the eastern extreme of Srirangapatna. It enshrines the cenotaphs of Hyder Ali, his wife Fakr-un-Nisa and Tipu Sultan, after his death in 1799 A.D. It is built on a stone plinth, with polished black granite pillars that run along the corridor around the inner chamber. A magnificent dome crowns the building. The chamber is painted with the tiger stripes that were associated with Tipu.

The structure, laid out amidst a garden, typical of Islamic architecture, also houses the Masjid-E-Aksa.

At the eastern entrance of the Mausoleum is a tablet in Persian script that speaks of the martyrdom of Tipu Sultan in 1799 A.D.

There are also numerous other cenotaphs of the relatives of Tipu Sultan’s family.

- Nothing much to see here. There is a mausoleum and a garden.
- I visited here with colleagues on one early morning.
- I thought that was the best time to visit.
- At the time of our visit the atmosphere was shrouded in fog and it slowly disappeared as the sun rose. It was a beautiful sight.
- Tourists are allowed to this place from early morning, Tipu's tomb opens only after 8:00 am.
- There are several tombs around Tipu's mausoleum. It was said that it belonged to his relatives.
- The tomb is surrounded by a beautiful garden.
- No entry fee. But the parking fee is Rs.40-50 are collected by private individuals.
- Government and tourism department are not managing this properly. It seems to have been destroyed.
- A small horse ride can be enjoyed outside the gate by paying Rs 50-100.
- Those planning to visit Mysore and adding this place to the list should have personal vehicles. Because one can visit Summer Palace, Kaveri River etc. on the same route. Another thing is that you can avoid being cheated by cabs and auto drivers.

Gumbaz e Shahi is a stunning mausoleum that is located in the town of Srirangapatna, Karnataka, India. It was built in the 17th century by Tipu Sultan, one of the greatest rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore. The mausoleum was constructed to serve as the final resting place for Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali, and his mother Fakr-Un-Nisa.

The architecture of the building is a fine example of Indo-Islamic style, featuring intricate carvings and calligraphy on its walls. The central dome of the building is an impressive sight to behold, standing at a height of 20 meters and being adorned with colored tiles. The mausoleum also houses several ornamental graves and the burial chamber of the royal family.

The complex surrounding the Gumbaz e Shahi mausoleum is also worth exploring, as it contains beautiful gardens and manicured lawns that make for a peaceful and serene environment. The Gumbaz e Shahi complex provides a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the Mysore Kingdom and highlights its artistic and architectural achievements.

Overall, the Gumbaz e Shahi mausoleum is a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian history, architecture, and culture. Its stunning beauty and historical significance make it a top tourist destination in Srirangapatna.

The Gumbaz is a mausoleum at Srirangapattana. The building is at the centre of a landscaped garden. It has the graves of Tippu Sultan, his father and his mother. There are also many other graves on the site. This is a popular tourist site which often tend to get crowded. This compound was held by the british after the fall of TIpu. The british allowed the body of tipu to be buried here.

Be carefull of the autos and cabs here. they tend to overcharge the visitors. Please check the rates before accepting thier offers.

Little fact about this place: The original carved doors of the mausoleum have been removed and are now displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The present doors made of ebony and decorated with ivory were gifted by Lord Dalhousie.

On our way to Wayanad from Bangalore via Mysore road, we took a halt at this heritage place. The officials have taken some really good steps to maintain the cleanliness of the place. I don't know much about the place but I guess, it holds the graves of Tipu Sultan. *I am really sorry if I put this wrong.* The garden area is extremely beautiful.
