Swarn Bhandar

The story goes like this - Chellana Debi, queen of Bimbisar was furious when their son Ajarashatru thrown his father to prison around 492 BCE. She decided to hide all gold of royal treasure under the massive rocks this cave.

British even fired cannon to search and unearth the treasure; however they failed.

The cave is very well restored and maintained now by ASI. Takes 10 minutes by Toto ar taxi from the Kund area.

This is a historic place, famous for its story of gold stored beside the wall. It can be opened by a mantra which is not decoded yet and it is written in sankh lipi.

Witness the outstanding historical architecture of Maurya empire. Not very crowded in weekdays, you can book a guide (some local people) for some money (50 - 100 rupees) to explain more about its history.

This historical place in Rajgir is located beside Nature Safari. This place is small and can be visited under an hour. There are local guide who will explain the historical significance of this place.

You are allowed to visit inside the cave without any tickets. There is a huge garden outside the cave. You can roam freely in and around the garden and the cave.

There is parking place available and a guard assist you in the same. Beware of the monkeys in the area. This place is popular and is crowded a lot on the weekends.

A hilly place where gold is supposed to be hidden for safe keep. Very close to Jarasandh Ka akkada. A few ancient caves are also present at the site. Not known to many but interesting place to visit. Can't say the place is beautiful but not to be missed if you travel in this area.

The history of Swarn Bhandar is very interesting..... There is a huge treasury of vimbisar inside the Swarn Bhandar and it is closed with a Mantra...

To open the door of the cave you have to read the Mantra and as Mantra is of different script no-one is able to read ...

British govt tried to destroy the gate with tanks landmines but failed to do so......

It is to be said that it has hidden treasure of ancient times golds and jewellary. It is mysterious and lots ofancient stories have been related to it. Several attemps including blowing up the completer structure in British Period went to vain and thus the tresaure is still traceless. Properly managed, neat and clean so one must visit this man made cave in mountains.

Not allowed to climb the place, only see from the ground.

A nice place to visit, has ancient importance and it is known for a secret treasure inside the wall that contains gold, gems and other treasure.
It is said that the door opens on reading the message written on the wall in unknown language.

If you know the "Shankh Lipi" then you are the "King" 🤗
Story tells that there is a large storage of gold which is locked by a "Manta" written in "Shankh Lipi"... Bad is that Grammar book of that was in Nalanda University burnt by Bakhtiyar Khilji...shamefull

This is Son Bhandar & not Suvarna Bhandar. Very old & interesting monument in Rajgir. These caves are intact even today. Some writings on walls of cave must be protected neatly. The stories spelt out by guides here are very interesting. We do not know about details but it is sure from display in the cave we can see the doors & mantra engraved on wall by which this doors can be opened. They also mentioned that Englishmen tried to open it forcefully but could not succeed. Meaning of son is tunnel & not Suvarna or gold . & In that tunnel Gautam swami , jain muni kept the all treasure of king. King offered this treasure to him but he has not accepted it & kept it here. In other open cave we can see Jain idols. Authorities should take care of this as may be mishandled by tourists.

The Son Bhandar Caves (also known as the Swarn Bhandar Caves) are two man-made caves carved into the base of the Vaibhar Hills in Rajgir in the state of Bihar in India. The smaller cave is located next to the main cave and is similar in structure. The cave is decorated with carvings of a Jain deity, possibly Mahavira.
