Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary

Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary contains tropical evergreen forests typical of the northern Western Ghats.425 species of plants have been recorded in the sanctuary. The main species found over here are Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Ain, Kinjal, Amba, Kumbha, Bhoma, Chandala, Katak, Nana, Umbar, Jambha, Gela, Bibba and banana. Karvi is found over almost the entire area. Climbing plants such as shikekai and garambi are common.This is a natural World Heritage Site notified by UNESCO as Sahyadri sub cluster of Western Ghats. It lies at the southern end of the Sahyadri hills in the Western Ghats. It is notable as the first declared wildlife sanctuary in Maharashtra, notified in 1958, as "Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary" and is popularly known as the "Bison Sanctuary".

Excellent place to visit after rainy season. Has rainfall @ 1800+ mm per year. Is the only reserved bison sanctuary in India.
Along with bisons ,gaint squirrel also can been seen often in the jungle.

Note important details-
Early morning at 6:00 AM you have to go for safari. Early in the morning when they come for water near the water pond in between 7-8 AM It is beautiful view and experience to see many no. of 🦬 bisons.

Also, you can stay here near home stay. Available with good service and quality experience you get.

The Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary is situated in the catchment areas of 'Rajarshi Shahu Sagar' and 'Laxmi Sagar' reservoirs in Kolhapur district, this sanctuary was constituted in the year 1958 and is the first wildlife sanctuary of Maharashtra.

The rivers that flow across the sanctuary are; Bhogavati, Kallamma, Dudhganga, Dirba and Tulshi, which then join the Krishna river which is a major river of the Deccan Peninsula. The 'Randhanagari Dam' is a famous tourist spot here.

Radhanagari wildlife sanctuary well known for being a  'Bison Sanctuary' , this sanctuary is home to the 'Indian Bison' or 'Gaur' which is found here in abundance, the sanctuary covers an area of about 351.16 square kilometers and it's terrain is undulating with steep ridges.

Historical places are there , hatti mahal had built by shahu maharaj also the radha nagri dam , in radhangri there was an ambabai temple which built by akkasaheb maharaj daughter of shahu maharaj in 1908

On the way from Kohlapur to Goa. Amazing road and scenic beauty. Area near Dam and reservoir is too beautiful specially after the rains in October.
