A hidden gem. If you are looking for an idylic and calm retreat away from the touristy backwaters with fantastic hosts look no further.

A beautiful house with simple rooms. Not luxurious but functional. Sitting on the veranda watching the world go by, taking canoe tours and renting kayaks was all superb.

And above all we felt very warmly received and looked after by the hosts and welcomed by the local people we encountered.

Thank you.

This is such a nice place that we found ourselves in - only reachable by boat, you start by being ferried across in a long, narrow canoe, punted by the boat driver with a huge, long piece of bamboo. We were warmly welcomed by Vinit and his granddaughter and later by Deepa, who the next day gave us a really good tour of the backwaters and took us to nice play to eat lunch, all the while teaching us about the area and way of life. It's a very relaxing place to get away for a couple of nights, and would highly recommend.

Very happy to have spent 3 nights in this beautiful homestay hosted by a very sweet family. Our stay felt very homey, but at the same time we had enough space to do our own thing.
Every morning was a gift as the views from the front garden are gorgeous and it is so calm at the same time.
Would highly recommend staying here, also don’t forget to try the delicious food they make, or even do a cooking class like we did!

This is one of those pace that photos can not make it justice. The landscape and peacefulness here are mesmerising. The rooms are nothing close to luxurious (nor the bathroom impeccable cleaned) but honestly the place is so nice that we don’t care. Lastly we’ll miss the sweet host Dipa and of course the little one, Cheeky :)
PS. If you are wondering you can easily rent a motorbike in Ernakulam and reach the place by motorbike.

We had an incredible time at Ayana's. This magnificent house is located in one of the most enchanting spot of the backwaters. It is a great place to rest and to explore the backwaters. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the home made food is delicious and the hosts are incredibly helpful and friendly.

I cannot recommend this homestay enough! My friend and I really wanted to stay here for a couple of nights but the rooms were booked for consecutive nights. Vinit (the host) was able to offer us the opportunity to stay if we were willing to move between rooms, which we were more than happy to do and so glad we did!

The homestay is a little hard to reach, but it only adds to the experience as you get to be ferried across the river in a small canoe which V will organise for you - perfect

V, Deepa, and the rest of the family made us feel instantly at home and we had so much fun connecting with the other guests. Apart from my friend and I, all the other guests were couples, and throughout the day and evening everyone would chat, laugh, and trade travel stories. We all ate dinner at the homestay and ordered from the extensive menu on offer. The food was incredible and we even had the chance to taste some of the local fish steamed in banana leaf!

We ended up staying for 3 days exploring the local villages, kayaking (available for hire from V), and trying Toddy (the local coconut alcohol) in a nearby Toddy bar.

There was also a festival at the local temple during our stay, which was a great addition. I can honestly say that this is one of the best ways to experience the backwaters and unwind.

Thank you V and Deepa, we will be back soon!

*The only thing that could be improved is the availability of free WiFi, but other than that it was perfect from start to finish :)

A wonderful homestay. The elderly couple who host this stay are very humble and sweet. The home made food here is so good and felt like we were at home. The view is just stunning! We walked around this little island, went for nice boat rides, and met a few of the locals who were very friendly. We were lucky to also see the locals fixing a boat by hand. Overall, worth the stay. Especially if you want a staycation or a break from the hectic life.

Located in the midst of the backwaters, this is a perfect place to experience that dream Kerala style vacation. The journey of reaching the homestay itself is so unique that you can't miss it.

Vineet and his family are awesome hosts and take care of you like their own. Vineet is also a great conversationist and you won't get bored talking to him.

Overall Awesome Experience !
The hosts are friendly and helpful. We went in the wrong route ,but they us to reach safely.
Food: All the dishes are homemade tastes and authentic kerala taste.
My favorite one was meen polichathu.
They are offering kayaking at an affordable price, and this is also very nice.

We’ve had an amazing stay at Deepa and Vinit’s place! They live at the prettiest location, you instantly become zen upon arrival. Deepa cooked the most delicious meals at a low cost and Vinit arranged everything for us that we needed. From a boat tour through the backwaters to a taxi with visit to a pretty temple on our return. The area around the house is also explorable by walking (recommended at sunrise). We’d highly recommend to stay with this lovely family for your visit to the Kerala backwaters.

Right from the very first view of the property that you get from afar, you'll be assured that you'll have a good time here. The entrance on the traiditonal wooden canoe called vellam does become a major highlight, to reach the space that Vineet and Deepa's has created with so much love and passion.
The place surely does feel like home, especially because of the presence and energy of Ayana's youngest team member, Chikki and her brightest and biggest smile.

The conversations with people in the front porch or the dining table did become one of my most favorite parts here. Especially the memory of celebrating valentine's evening with everyone was a major highlight.

The food was really good! Thanks to Deepa and her team.

The cleanliness was something that I'd give a 4/5 points. As I understand it can be quite difficult to keep everything upto the mark of perfection.

The quite nights and constant breeze on ones hair, the pleasant mornings with sun on your face, the beautiful refresing swim in the lake out front, everything helped me find what I looking for which was some moments of retreat and rest.

So be sure and enjoy your time whenever you can at this lovely space. I hope you find what you're looking for at Ayana's too.

The most beautifully quiet and magical place to stay on the Kerala Backwaters. Arrived by boat to a little piece of heaven. Spotless, such friendly hosts Deepa and Vinit and his parents. The best home cooked food I have had in my six weeks in India. Really eco friendly. Lovely guided walk with Vinit through village. One side is the backwater and the other side lush rice fields.

What a a wonderful stay at Ayana's guesthouse!. Deepa and Vinit(and let's not forget Cheeky!😂) are the most helpful, friendly and wholesome hosts you can hope for. The property is unique, in the backwaters of Allepey, clean, fresh, cool! The food is to die for as well, and they have a great selection! My only regret is that me and my family only stayed for one night. We will certainly go back! Thanks a lot V and D :)

The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming as well as the staff. Perfect place to stay on thethe backwaters! The rooms were clean, large, comfy beds and hot water. He will take you for a walk around the village telling you about various herbs and plants in the area as well as the history of the backwater. I would definitely recommend visiting this homestay for a true backwater local experience. Make sure you bring your appetite the food is amazing. Thanks for everything!

My wife and I stayed atAyana’s Homestay as part of a small Intrepid tour group. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Our bedroom was spotless and comfortable and the whole complex had a great ambiance to it. The meals were excellent in presentation and taste and Gopal went to great lengths to explain the ingredients and preparation. We all enjoyed his guided tour of the village. Highly recommended!

The best place to experience the Gods own country. The peace and serenity, the morning calm, the village life, the nearby temples , the mesmerising sounds of rainfall, the river and the house boats, the list is endless which I enjoyed here. The landlord and landlady were like the elders of your own family, the love and affection which the showered cannot be found in any five star hotel. Quality of food was awesome. I did not miss the flavour of my morning tea. The taste of the fresh coconut water and bananas was priceless. The guidence for local spots and the house boat ride was also invlauble. In short being there was the best way to know about Kerala. Will visit again and again.
