This spot is a key stop for Sabarimala pilgrims, where many take a bath before continuing their journey. The Azhutha River meets the Pamba River just above the Ghats.

Despite being an important stop that boosts the local economy, the Ghat is in poor condition. There’s no regular cleaning, and with thousands of devotees passing through each season, a lot of waste accumulates. Sadly, the local governments of Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts haven’t stepped up to maintain the area. Local vendors also add to the problem by dumping waste on the riverbank. The toilets are only open during the main pilgrimage season, forcing people to defecate in the open, which is a serious health hazard.

It’s crucial for the local government and community to come together to clean and maintain this area, ensuring a healthy and respectful pilgrimage experience.
