This bright and cheerful little handicrafts outlet catches the eye , when traveling from Sagara to Jog Falls . It belongs to a local artist Chandrashekar Sirivanthe , who has been working for the revival of traditional local arts like Chittara and traditional foods . He has created several lovely art pieces using the Chittara form of geometric drawings which have a long tradition of cultural significance in these regions . Reportedly, he has exhibited at national and international levels . His house doubles up as his studio and Art Gallery . The endangered local crafts like toranas made of paddy sheaves are also being revived . The shop also sells local produce like wild honey , jaggery etc .
Another innovation of his is a huge Buddha idol , fitted with a mechanism to makes its eyes open for one minute . Before this performance , he gives a long speech about the importance of Eye Donation . The Eye Opening Buddha Idol is his way of creating awareness about it.
