We are on a three week trip in Florence and the morning after we arrived, we took an Airbnb Secret Food Tour at this market, which the professional chef hosting the tour called the “market of the Florentines.” We tasted 20 items in this market. We loved the experience so much that we have been back twice during our first week here. And we intend to go throughout the rest of our trip. if you’re visiting Florence, it would be beneficial to take a tour of this market to get an idea of the background of many of the merchants here, from artisan sheep cheesemakers, beekeepers selling honey, meat cutters, organic vegetable farmers, and pastas. This market will steal your heart in a big way. The best way for me to show you what a wonderful place it is it just to post the pictures. Go there! Try foods you have never eaten. Experience the sounds, the sights and the smells. And then go there again and again and again.☀

Do not miss this place if you love food!! I don't know you, and you don't know me, but may I be so bold as to recommend that you visit in order to prepare a meal? You'll find tempting inspiration here in full. Meat eaters will find loads to enjoy with an abundance of fresh and preserved in raw or ready-to-eat states. Also fresh pasta, 'sides' of cooked greens, sauces and deli goods, plus a cafeteria-type operation serving no-nonsense but delectable portions. Coffee available. The real beauty lies outside, though, in the fresh fruits and vegetables - when we visited the heirloom tomatoes were the size of a small purse, and you could smell the strawberries metres away. Don't expect bold signage - this is more of a locals set up than a tourist hotspot, but Google will get you there. Take some reusable bags - more than you think you'll need (maybe a backpack?).

Great local market! We bought amazing fresh veggies and were very impressed by the prepared food options as well. If I lived here I would come here often.

Fantastic market. On the inside you have meats, cheeses, fish, pasta, a restaurant, and a great coffee shop. On the outside (covered), you have fruits and vegetables, as well as clothing, flowers, etc. The coffee shop in the center of the market serves the workers as well as walk-up patrons - it is not to be missed. Probably the best cappuccinos that I had on our 7 week vacation and only 1.40€. The young couple that runs it is very nice (and busy). This market serves 90% locals unlike the touristy central market.

We called in here on a street food tour, full of local fresh produce and it so happened the day was also the market's 150th birthday! You should really try and call here and sample some of the amazing foods they have on offer. A step back in time but great to see!

Great market. Don’t miss the Food court upstairs, in addition to all the great places on the main floor. Free bathrooms too!

Great market for fresh fruits and veggies outside. All the vendors pack up and move out at 2pm. So get there early, because after 2 it is a parking lot. Inside, you can buy ready to eat food, meats, cheeses and more. You can even get a tripe sandwich (ewwwwww)

We had a nice and cheap breakfast with good coffee in the day time. At night the upstairs is opened. It's like a food court with a very wise variety of food and drinks. Can shop for souvenirs like olive oil, balsamico etc too. Nice and lively ambience suitable for families with kids

What a great experience it was! Come here and you will try local traditional food which is prepared and offered with love from the very friendly personnel. Owner is a old man who is part of all this entertainment, he will come and speak to you and will share with his good mood with you. 100% recommended!!!

When you visit Sant'Ambrogio Market in Florence, be prepared for an unforgettable experience. I was
overwhelmed the amazing fragrance of fish meats and spices in this expansive marketplace. It is truly a place where you'll need a minimum of 2 days to enjoy and reap the benefits of learning about Italian cuisine and more.

A small market that contains many relevant products. Locals live around the area and buy their food here. Fruits and veggies, fresh pasta and sauces, cheeses, deli, meats, seafood, prepared foods, cafe, restaurant, bottled and canned goods, grains, coffee. Discovered this divine pear with caramelized syrup. Friendly people too.

The open-air produce market in front of the enclosed market is fantastic. We go there regularly to buy the freshest, sweetest, juiciest clementines...

If you are looking for an authentic Italian shopping experience, this is the place. Fresh produce, meats, cheeses, pastries, nuts, pasta...also clothes, shoes, household goods...everything! You'll be picking out your items along local residents and buying from local farmers and merchants. There are boutique restaurants inside, too, with places for sit-down dining. Prices for everything are super affordable. We love this place!
