Sanctuary of Montenero

Most impressive location with great view and many tokens of Catholic devotion. The church is located on top of a hill with a great view and inside you find a huge collection (over 12.000!) of tokens.

Even if the religious part is not your thing, it's still worth a visit for the great view and the short trip by cableway.

Very moved by as well as interested in the folk art of the ex voto in the sanctuary - and the pharmacy selling bio products (tisanes, sweets, shampoo etc) is very good. Definitely worth a visit - especially if you combine it with a gastronomic pilgrimage to the fabulous Osteria fonte del penitente nearby (not the ones in the square in front of the sanctuary which are really grim)

My military family lived in Livorno for several years and we frequently frequented this beautiful Sanctuary of the ‘Madonna di Montenero’ while we were all very young . As Catholics, My brother and I made our 1STHoly Communion there. It is a miraculous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces. So unbelievable, so unforgettable, so NEEDED in these times of turmoil. It is up on a mountain overlooking the beautiful Naval Port of the ancient City of Livorno. 👍😄🏆🌹🍃

A magical, special place. Went to mass - it was packed with a million kids, wonderfully serene. Afterwards, a beautiful courtyard with shops offering religious merchandise, and a gallery of gratitude notes from those who prayed here. Special reverence towards St John Paul II. Next doir: amazing restaurant "Montallegro" with wonderful, authentic food and amazing views and a lush garden.

This is one of the stops when doing the open top bus tour. The price includes a ticket for the furnicular - time it right to get the next bus back, although when we were there he did wait for any latecomers.
Well worth a stop for the views and wander round. Maybe just enough time for a coffee!

Just love this place. So unique and meaningful for Tuscany. Our Lady of Montenero is the patronness of the whole region. The Shrine (full of ex votos of stunning miracles attributed to her intercession) looks above the whole city of Livorno, the shore and even the islands, if the day is clear enough. A must for whoever visits this part of Tuscany!

Famous place of worship on hills of Livorno. People come here to thank the Lord for help rendered. Many beautiful ‘Ex Voto’s often from 17th century.

It's the most beautiful phenomena. The feeling of peace, love, hope, it is just amazing. It's a must see.

For adorer of Papa Giovanni Paolo ii a very nice place. We have been here several times and will be back every time we are in Tuscany.
