Ristorante Bell'Agio

We just had a lovely meal at Bell’Agio! From the beautiful setting of an authentic Sassi to the warm welcome to the professional and attentive service to the exquisite food —everything was perfect! We had the vitellone al tonno for antipasta; entrees were the pork filet (can’t remember the Italian name for this dish) with grilled vegetables and spaghettone con alicia e limone (pasta with anchovies and lemon). Dessert was the nougat ice cream with gianduia sauce followed by noccio digestivo and the connolo followed by grappa. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend a dinner at Bell’Agio when you’re in Matera!

We stopped in for an early dinner after a long walk. We had no reservation but were welcome and seated on the pleasant outdoor patio with a nice view. We ordered the 4 course meal and it was absolutely the best meal we had in Matera! Wonderful flavors and nicely presented. The dessert that evening was cannoli and it was the best I have ever had! Also huge and thoughtful wine list, at all price points. I would love to eat here again. Thank you!

Food is good. The owners are very attentive, funny and friendly. The place is quite relaxing and you will enjoy watching the house from down here to the above the hill as I describe it. I will definitely recommend this place if you will visit matera.

I was on a solo trip through southern Italy and spent a few nights in Matera. I booked a table at Bell’Agio because it was so highly rated. I ordered the tasting menu (€40) and it was some of the best food I had during my trip - the dishes were all authentic to the region, as was the wine.

The meal alone would have gotten five stars from me, but the service was truly the exemplary part of the evening. My server turned out to also be the owner and sommelier - he was attentive and kind beyond expectation. He gave a tour of one of the wine cellars - there are three with over 4,000 bottles each! I also asked for his help finding a taxi at the end of the night since they’re harder to come by than I expected in Matera. He not only called a car for me - he also checked on it when it took longer to arrive than expected to pick me up, and made sure I had a safe place to wait since it was so late at night. As a woman on a solo adventure, it meant a great deal to me to have him go above and beyond to ensure I arrived home safely.

Long story short - the food was wonderful and the service was exemplary I would happily eat here again next time I’m in Matera!

Enjoyed a pasta from the lunch menu in the heart of the old town. Paired it with wine and dessert, both were exquisite.

Antonio was a lovely host offering a wonderful atmosphere for dinner. The food and the wine were delightful! Clearly there is a passion here for high quality local ingredients.

Amazing food and great/friendly/attentive service. We went for the menu, and everything is delicious and memorable! Amazed at the way they understand food/ingredients! One of the nicest places i have eaten in Matera and Italy! Will miss Antonio, and will definitely recommend this place if you visit matera!

We just enjoyed dinner while serenaded by a very skilled sax musician. My partner ordered the scallops with cuttlefish crumble and I had the cod, cuttlefish ink and rocket. Wow! Sublime. Best meal in our 2+ weeks so far in Italy. Going back tomorrow.

I was in Matera for a weekend with my girlfriend, we had dinner at Bell'agio, the dishes were good and light, the ingredients of first choice, flavors were astonish and digestion was also light, but the peak was the wine chart.
The quality/price is fair, chef and staff are friendly and passionate about their work.

Best ice cream desert ever (with chocolate sauce and crunchy stuffing ). We loved also the antre (salmone with pavalone cheese).
And the location.

Great service, location and food.

The food was great, the house red was even better, and the waiter was accommodating since my wife and i entered for a very late lunch.
