What a convivial place to spend the night. Area 8 is part cocktail bar, part night club, part terrace. The atmosphere, particularly at weekends is super friendly and warm. Their efficient drink ordering system means you get served swiftly even when it's busy. The bar staff are lovely and very talented cocktail makers. And the prices feel very good value. One of my favorite spots in Matera.

Read some great reviews about Area 8 and I wasn't disappointed. Had a bit of time to kill before dinner so decided to check this spot out. They've got lots of creative food and cocktail offerings on the menu! We got an Aperitivo Area 8 (€13) which was a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, and their version of crostine (thinly sliced and toasted bread with a slight charred taste, drizzled olive oil and oregano sprinkles - super interesting, loved it!) that came with a drink (we got an aperol spritz). Service was friendly and prompt. They've put thought into the space as well, loved the ambience and characteristic features of their alfresco area. All in all - would happily recommend this place!

The bar is amazing. Drinks & food were very good, music was nice but the best part was the staff ☺

Great cocktail bar. Nice designed interior. Great atmosphere and immaculate service. Nice food and snacks that are well priced On top of that and the most important: a fantastic drink menu with wide range of gin's and house speciality cocktails. Simply perfect ;)

Amazing place! Vintage 50s inspired decor, wonderful live music, craft cocktails, delicious menu, and a superb service! Must try misto cheese+meat board! A hidden gem in Sassi di Matera.

This is a really great find! A great busy & buzzy bar just off a bustling piazza in the centre of Matera. We went here after dinner on a Wednesday by recommendation of our Airbnb host, the place just got busier and busier throughout the night and the drinks kept flowing. The Negroni's were a highlight, definitely worth a visit!
