Fortress of San Leo

Lovely place for a day trip - especially if you like walking, castles, history, and great views! You could spend many hours inside the castle looking at all the artifacts and watching the films they have about the castle. If you spend time walking around everything then it's well worth the €9 entry fee.

Wonderful visit on a very foggy day but still worth it. Easy walk up hill that is well sign posted. Good signage inside. Probably great views but not the day I visited as you can see in the photos.

Gorgeous place for pictures, really beautiful building at th top of a rock mountain

Beautiful well preserved fortress with a lot of history. Visit the prison cells, the fortifications and the cell in which the alchemist Cagliostro was imprisoned and died. Well worth the 8 euro entrance fee. Walk or take the shuttles bus from the village square (2 euro)

Drive up into the town was beautiful. Lovely small town. Worth the journey. Short very steep walk to the castle, or bus for a euro. Castle is €9 entry per adult. Didn't enter maybe next time!

An amazing fortress with a wonderful view. The museum inside is very informative. The view from the fortress is breathtaking.

The village is really lovely and the view from the top of the castle is magnificent. Basically no need to use the shuttle, just a short walk up taking less than 10m. To be enjoyed on a day with a clear sky. A must do when you're in the neighborhood.

What a great place to stop and see some history. Built in the 1500's. The fortress has a room with many torture devices.

A fabulous Fortress ,it´s really worth a visit ,it have a very long history ,some of it is very dark and cruel ,there are so much to see there ,so it´s very easy to spend a half day there ,plus the view from the top of the mountain are absolutely stunning , we spend 2 weeks inside the fort ,as we had an art exhibition ,so was really exploring the whole area ,could easily have spend the double time there !

Deserves a visit. Well maintained and entertainment inside with real historical torture tools

Wonderful Medieval Experience. It's a Time Travel back some centuries in the Dark Ages of torture to individuals (4 rooms of tools used for punishments + a cave prison), alchemists and massive fortress walls! There is also a section with the full history of the castle and modern WWI weapon. Totally worthy the visit and the ticket 👍

Really an awesome place for family and the price for ticket is affordable.
There are lot of information and historical things to see.
It worth to go there !!!

This is an example of those fantastic, incredibly beautiful castles and medieval towns that you can find all across Italy in strategic places. Centuries old and full of history, famous people have lived here. There is a collection of medieval instruments of torture that is entertaining for adults and kids alike. Unfortunately the ticket is rather expensive, 9€ per person at the time of writing.

The fortress of San Leo is a "must see" monument. Now, beside a fantastic view of the adriatic coast and the apennines peaks, is possible to visit the virtual museums explaining the history of this magic place...

Wonderful little village on the top of a mountain. Very early in the season but we had lunch.

Awesome place...what a view and plenty to see for all interests. Bit of a hike up but well worth it

An historical location, with a huge fortifocated castle place at the top of a rocky peak. The view is amazing spacing from San Marino to the Adriatic seaside.

What a beautiful little town with a charming piazza and a good little walk up to the fort. We visited on the way back from San Marino
