It happens only once a year that I give 5 stars for a place, but Botega Culinaria really deserves it. We found the place by chance and decided to try it for one dish. At the end we finished with 4 ;-)
The chef the cuisine has definitely international experience and creates really delicious dishes for moderate prices. The service was really professional and friendly. We really enjoyed the dinner and will definitely return.

This is an outstanding restaurand. Italian food in a vibe but like no other places at all. Every dish has a twist that makes it unique. Evrything presented baeutifully and taste really really good. It's a real gem... the photos don't do it no justice. It tasted and looked much much better in real life...

Absolutely wonderful. Definitely our best meal on our Italian trip around Puglia and Basilicata.

Food and staff were brilliant.

Staff were warm, friendly and had good English. It was a very busy night but they handled everything perfectly.

Following the complementary amuse bouse, we had taglioni with red shrimps and truffle oil (€19). My partner had a very generous portion of mixed fried fish including whitebait, squid and shrimps (€23).

The bottles of wine started from around €25 or so.

Highly recommended and very much a 'must go' restaurant.

Incredible delicious food, fine cuisine. Very friendly and nice people. Every dish we taste was heaven, in mouth and to the eyes (nicely presented), also the gluten free options. Dinning here has been a fantastic culinary experience, highly recommended!!

The staff, atmosphere and food are all wonderful. The servers are some of the most personable we have ever encountered. The food was great including an interesting presentation of fava bean and chicory soup presented asa cappuccino.

This place is out of this world AMAZING.
By far the best dining experience in Italy.

I’ve never been to a Michelin star restaurant but I’d imagine that this is what it looks and feels like.

Our waiter Domenico was amazing at explaining each ingredient and how it all comes together.

We’ve tried MANY restaurants in Italy and none come even close to this special place.

My partner and I came for dinner with our young child and were thoroughly impressed at the level of service and the quality of the food. Our waiter (shout out to Domenico) was very attentive, explained all the food in detail (in French and English!). The restaurant even had high chairs for our little one. I liked the fact that you pass the bar and kitchen before making your way upstairs to the dining area - all the staff were friendly and stopped to say hello.

On the food, I had the confit veal which was exquisite: crispy on the outside and so tender it melted in the mouth. A side of roasted potatoes was the perfect complement. I should add that we had a couple of finger food appetisers which were a real highlight, mixing textures and tastes (the local sausage meat encased in a dried apricot was my favourite - so much so that Domenico even told us where to buy it!). The bread ice cream was truly novel and capped off a great dining experience.

Definitely worth the five stars and wholeheartedly recommend.

A little insider tip.

Brand new in the city, this restaurant is more of a club style. Cool music, delicious food, fine wines and a professional service.

In summer you love the shade outside and in winter the tables on the first floor.

A real experience! Very kind and honest waiters, perfect service. Dishes that are little pieces of art and tastes which have not been tasted before. Thank you chef, I hope many may enjoy your work in the future !

This is one of the finest dining experiences I have ever had I really do not know how this restaurant has not got at least 1 Michelin star
The service was second to none the food was both very well presented well balanced and the flavours were incredible
And very reasonably priced
2 amuse bouche
2 starters
2 mains
2 bottles of wine
Less than 140 euro
I would highly recommend this restaurant if ever you are in Matera be warned book early

We fell upon this place walking around in our first evening in Matera. The waiter was great, good English and a good sense of humor. The food was fantastic. It wasn't the cheapest meal we've had in Italy, but certainly the best! So good that we came back for our second night in the old city. Great wine recommendations.

Spectacular experience from arrival to exit. Food is very refined and the menu is full of variants on the local cuisine. Service impeccable in 5+ languages. Expensive (I'd give it €€€) but worth it for the innovative takes on pastas especially. Wine list runs to 10 pages and includes plenty of affordable Puglia and Basilicata options as well as stratospheric Italian reds and French champagnes. Highly recommended for a splurge or celebratory meal whilst in Matera.

The service is impeccable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. Every single thing we tried we loved. For those that are gluten free, note that this restaurant also offers pasta without gluten (very delicious) and offers fried seafood gluten free. Highly recommend this place.
