This is the best meal we’ve had in Italy. The service was superb. The concierge, the server, the bartender were all so friendly and thoughtful. The food was perfect. The onion soup was the best I’ve had anywhere. The seabass was perfect. The desserts were just right, delicate, flavorful, not too sweet. And topped off with excellent espresso!

The food was excellent and the portion sizes were perfect. We ate with a group of 11 and the service was fast and everyone enjoyed their meals. The wine selection had many local options and we enjoyed a few of the waiters recommendations. We sat in the courtyard out behind the restaurant and it was well shaded from the summer heat, it had a nice view of the top of the church dome and the atmosphere was lovely. I started with the poached egg and truffle appitizer which was very light. The tomato, garlic, olive, and hazelnut pasta was delicious, and I finished off with the chocolate terrine.

Absolutely worth booking a reservation if you're in the area.

This place has delicious food and great wine. I particularly enjoyed their onion soup. I really can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Nestled in the heart of the charming Italian town of Montepulciano, there stood a quaint ristorante called La Grotta. The restaurant, known for its delectable cuisine and warm hospitality, was a favorite among locals and tourists alike.

Owned by the Lucciano family for generations, La Grotta was a symbol of tradition and authenticity. The family took great pride in using only the freshest local ingredients in their dishes, and their recipes had been passed down from their ancestors.

One summer evening, a young American couple, John and Emily, stumbled upon La Grotta while exploring the winding streets of Montepulciano. The tantalizing aroma of freshly baked bread and herbs drew them towards the restaurant, and they decided to give it a try.

As they entered the cozy eatery, they were greeted by the warm smile of the owner, Signora Lucciano. She led them to a table near the window, which offered a breathtaking view of the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany.

The couple was immediately captivated by the ambiance of the restaurant. The walls were adorned with vintage photographs and paintings, giving the place a rustic and homely feel. The soft music playing in the background added to the romantic atmosphere.

John and Emily were both food enthusiasts, and they were excited to try the local delicacies. They ordered a bottle of the famous Montepulciano wine and perused the menu, which was filled with traditional Italian dishes.

For starters, they had the bruschetta, made with tomatoes, olive oil, and fragrant herbs. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and it left them wanting more. Next came the pasta course, and they opted for the homemade pappardelle with a rich wild boar ragu. The flavors were bold and robust, and it was clear that the dish had been cooked with love and passion.

As they savored their main course, a succulent beef tenderloin in a red wine reduction, they couldn't help but admire the skill and expertise of the chef. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was a symphony of flavors.

By the end of their meal, John and Emily were completely blown away by the food and the warm hospitality of the Lucciano family. They thanked Signora Lucciano and promised to return before their trip to Italy ended.

Over the next few days, John and Emily became regulars at La Grotta. They were always greeted with a warm smile and treated like family. They even got to know the Lucciano family and learned more about the history of the restaurant.

On their last night in Montepulciano, the Lucciano family surprised them with a special meal, featuring all their favorite dishes. They laughed and shared stories over delicious food and wine, and it felt like they were saying goodbye to dear friends.

As they left La Grotta that night, John and Emily knew that their experience at the ristorante had been one of the highlights of their trip. They couldn't wait to come back and relive the magical moments at La Grotta in the future.

Set in front of the Tempio di San Biagio Church and with the entrance overseeing the beautiful Tuscany landscape, La Grotta and it’s staff makes us feel welcome instantly. The traditional architecture provides a cozy atmosphere that reminds us where we are without taking away the focus: Food!

It is a quest of de-selection as we would prefer to taste everything. We share an antipasti, just to warm up and then the traditional Tuscan tomato soup which La Grotta takes to another level - pure join it all it’s simplicity. Main courses rack of lamb and sea bass fillet come with each their Italian flavors. Our particular compliments to the Chef on the fish.

A nice Brunello, even if this is Montepulciano, proved a perfect companion also with the Terrina di fondente e caramello salato - a heavenly chocolate desert to finish.

One of the best restaurants we ate at during our stay on Montepulciano. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The food was exceptional. It was simple but refined to really focus on the main ingredient.

They have a garden where you can get a beautiful view of the church. Absolutely recommend.

Amazing ambience, great service and food make us come back every year for the last 3 years. The staff is very kind and flexible with vegan options, which is not common in the area. Best dessert I’ve ever tried and great wine selection. Make sure to make a reservation. Parking available right outside or along the alley to the right of the restaurant.

Absolute gem of a place, with a charming, secluded, shaded terrace at the bottom on Montepulciano's hill and a menu featuring the best of Tuscany. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch with excellent service and presentation. As the terrace is tucked in, there isn't much of a breeze, but the foliage and umbrellas or canopy keep it comfortable, even midday in July. Great, memorable meal.

By far the best restaurant we've been to in Tuscany. Location is awesome , quiet , not windy and a nice view on the church from the garden. Nice and chic atmosphere.

The service was extraordinary. Couldn't be better.

Food focuses on taste without trying to fake. Basic but delicious, which is in our opinion the magic to good cuisine.

Price adequate for the quality you get.

We will definitely come back.
