Tried gelato for the first time in Italy. Stopped by this place based on a recommendation. It has been in business since 1939. Had the chocolate and vanilla flavors. So creamy and delicious. Friendly service!

Artigianale gelato, yes yes yes!! Perche no, let’s take this to the next level!

It’s the delicious artisan gelato of Florence. Yummy and great, this creamy gelato is a real one. Dive into a creamy bonanza! Jackie had chunky coffee and nutty chocolate.

For all my followers, here is a special tip: look out for gelato height! If the cream rises above the metal tin, then it will not be cold enough for amazing texture.

But do you know? Of the name of this gelato, Perche no!…? It means why not, so why not give it a try!

Jackie will see you again!

It was busy and chaotic full of tourists and yet they were friendly and fast.

I was looking for some vegan icecream and I found this shop. Tried the vegan chocolate and hazelnut flavours.

Price was good and taste was amazing!

Best one so far in Florence.

So nice, I came here three times while in Florence, including as a celebration, right after getting engaged. I liked that the vegan flavours changed every day for the most part because I meant that I wasn’t getting bored - good flavours, good range, quality ingredients.

Everything is incredible!!!! I tried the hazelnut, pistachio, fiordilatte, bacio, strawberry, watermelon, fig, chocolate… As you can see I went a little crazy here but what can I say? It is so creamy and milky and juicy. You can taste all the flavors and the complexity. Highly highly recommend taking the pana montata with every flavors you try, you will not regret it!

Perche No! was on our gelato tour while we were in Italy and was recommended by our tour guide. Certainly we went at the beginning of the tourist season so the store was not busy and we were served by two lovely older women who have is a beautiful serving of gelato (salted caramel and stratiatella). Beautiful, slender store with good gelato (not the best) during our visit to Florence.

Absolutely THE BEST Gelato I have ever had. In the US good ice cream places are rare to find, the biggest issue I have is the level of sweetness, everything in the IS is just TOOO sweet. In Europe things are much less sweet overall but this place is just perfect. The Gelato is made daily fresh, so a lot of the flavors you can’t get 2 days in a row. Everything is just delicious and delightful that you can not get enough. When I usually eat ice cream even at other most of the gelato places, I leave feeling heavy and not satisfied, regenerating why I had some and I usually can’t finish a small order on my own. I don’t have that problem here. After eating my ice cream I leave feeling great and wanting more.

10 out of 5 for Gelato
4 for for service.
4 for location and ambiance

If you ever visit Florence this place is must have, you will not regret it.

Stop two, for us, on our gelato tour of Florence involved a stop at Gelateria Perchè No! Why not! Perchè No! regularly appears on "best" gelato in Florence lists. It's one of the oldest shops in town (founded in 1935) and specifically what brought us here was to try their recreation of Buontalenti, the original gelato flavor. Perchè No! won a contest to recreate chef Buontalenti's 1565 recipe and it's been permanently on their menu ever since. So if you're on a gelato tour, and you want something connected to the actual origin of gelato, this is the exact spot for you.

The gelato was fantastic. It was a whole other level to taste what the original flavor may have tasted like. They've got dairy free (vegan) flavors if you need them, and a whole bunch of really well done classic gelato flavors to try in a cup or cone.

We were super happy to be there and eat this gelato and bummed that the only way to have it again is to travel back to Florence from Los Angeles. (BUT WE'RE WILLING!)

Thank you, Perchè No! for the delicious gelato history in our mouths!

The Gelato here is incredible! I had 3 scoops and I almost went back for seconds! The quality is unlike any Gelato I've ever had. The flavors were delightful. The emoyees were super friendly and helpful.

Flawless ice cream! The flavor is incredibly clean, and the creaminess is perfect. It is the best ice cream I have tried without a doubt. I also want to highlight the very attentive and friendly attention of the employees. I recommend the Nucciola flavor.

Best ice cream place in Florence! I had the best tasting pistacchio e cioccolato fondente combo and it’s the best. They have the most tasty pictacchio flavored ice cream I had in the history of my gelato experience. 😆 Well, i always order this combo cos these are my favorite. The place is small and not like one of those big gelato shops around but i can assure you of their aunthentic flavors. A must try when in Florence!

This is my favorite gelateria in Florence. I have visited several times to enjoy the delicious gelato, including must-try flavors like lavender and tiramisu. Although it's a small shop, it's very clean, and the staff is friendly. Be aware that there may be a long queue during busy times.

I sample ice cream and gelato all over the world. Always hazelnut and sometimes pistachio and chocolate if I know they are high quality ingredients. I’ve had many great experiences - this place I can definitely recommend. And don't think I haven't tried other Gelato places in Florence. I have! None of them compare to this one.
Especially the hazelnut and pistachio were one of the best I’ve ever had - delicious full body natural flavor and right texture. The only other place that has even better pistachio (because of the extra pinch of salt and it is vegan!) would be Gelateria Edoardo il gelato biologico at Piazza del Duomo.

The best gelato place I have tried in Italy! I had the egg nog flavor and OMG so good! They change their flavors daily so when I went back the next day they didn’t have it but I tried their lemon and it was amazing too!

I am not saying that Perche no! is the best gelato in Florence... I am merely CONFIRMING it to be TRUE! In fact, it was the best gelato that I've ever had! The artisanal gelato was absolutely smooth as silk and all of the flavours exploding with deliciousness without being too sweet. All of the flavours that I sampled were absolutely perfectly balanced.

But to top it all off was the INCREDIBLE service and dining experience. Despite how busy the owner was and the fact that he probably served over 1000 gelati already today, he still took the time to to chat with me, answer all my questions and insist on providing me with ample GENEROUS samples! I'm not saying he does this for everybody, but he crammed FOUR giant scoops of gelato into my "small" cup and then still topped it off with whipped cream to the point of dangerously tipping over and charged me €3.50 with a big smile and a grazie! REFERENCE STANDARD gelato artiginale! GRAZIE MILLE! 😋
