La Ciarliana - Tuscan Winery

Beautiful vineyard! Simply exquisite views. We came in May, which is a busy season, without a reservation and they accommodated us right before lunch, which was very kind. Sara gave us our tasting (10 euro each) and explanation of three wines, which were all delicious, and made us feel welcome and glad to have made the stop! We all took wine home and can’t wait to share with family. Thank you, Sara, for the kindness and tasting!

La Ciarliana was such an amazing experience. We got there because it was on our way and decided to take a look inside. Sara welcomed us very warmingly, even though we didn’t have a reservation. We had our wine tasting, which was very technical and allowed us to really learn what we were drinking and how to pair it perfectly, instead of just drinking the wine. We also loved that it was a small family-owned winery as this gave it the authenticity that we were looking for. Thank you Sara for this kind and encouraging. I’m sure if I ever work in wine will be thanks to you!

Luigi, Jessica and Sarah were all so accommodating, despite us arriving late and them having a lot of work to do. This dedication to service, is reflected within the quality of their brew.

A Hidden Gem in the World of Wineries - La Ciarliana

We had the pleasure of attending a wine tasting session coupled with a guided tour at the "La Ciarliana" winery. The tour was conducted by Sara, whose absolute warmth and expert knowledge made the experience a delightful one. We have learnt a lot about the rich history of this winery and were even fortunate enough to meet the owner, Luigi.

The passion they bring to their craft was tangible and left a lasting impression on us. It's clear they pour their heart and soul into the production of their wine. We can confidently term "La Ciarliana" a hidden gem among Tuscany's wineries.

Our wine tasting experience was one of the best my wife and I have experienced. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of not only the winery but also the region. It was a great experience with a wonderful family. The wine was also extremely good.

Definitely a great family winery to visit. Sara led us through the winery with great passion and we then had a wonderful tasting of their great wines. They shipped us bottles abroad and these arrived in perfect condition too!

La Carliana is a lovely “little” family run winery that will provide you with a personalised experience.

If you’re looking for a wine tour/tasting, I can only recommend this place. We’ve arrived to Montepulciano early in the afternoon with no plans except knowing we want to go on a wine tasting tour. La Carliana was recommended to us by our hotel staff and was totally worth it. They managed to squeeze us in an hour after our arrival to the hotel which was very convenient.

The place isn’t massive but our tour guide (I think her name was Sara) frequently stopped and explained everything to us. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the winery as well as how the current processes function.

The tour was concluded by wine tasting with a small plate of appetisers. We’ve tasted 5 of their wines with explanations for scent and taste (we love wine but this was our first wine tasting ever so we had no idea what to do when wine tasting) and what foods pair well with each wine.

The cost of the tour was 22€ per person including the tasting. The tour was meant to be 1 hour long, but ended up lasting around 1 hour 20 mins. It was just the two of us making the experience that much more personalised.

We’ve really enjoyed our time and can highly recommend the winery as well as our guide.

P.S. We ended up leaving with 4 bottles so that also tells you their wine is amazing 😉

We absolutely loved our experience at La Ciarliana! They were the best hosts, very accommodating and understanding when we ran a bit late after getting lost. Sara was wonderful and knowledgable not just about wine, but also explained the role wine plays in Italian culture and cuisine. I feel like I learned so much in just one wine tour. My partner and I bought a bottle to enjoy after the tour and I wish we had bought more to enjoy back home! Would love to visit again if we ever make our way back to Tuscany. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic! This family run, small winery provides a great personalized experience with a knowledgeable guide, Sara, who speaks fluent English. We did a winery tour with a food plate plus five wines. Sara is passionate about how they make wines and explains well why the local Vino Nobile DOCG is something special. The view of the vineyards from their building is beautiful. The tasting takes place above the main wine production facility, which is mostly below ground. The winery owner, Luigi, lives in the house adjacent to the winery and his extended family lives in the houses at the property entrance. We enjoyed all five of the wines they offered during the tasting, and the charcuterie plates were tasty and well thought out. I highly recommend a visit!

We had a wonderful tasting at La Ciarliana, and it also included our children which I found very special. I also enjoyed that it's a small, family-owned winery that doesn't cater to mass-production and lots of visitors. My family was the only group on property during our tasting, and Sarah did a wonderful job explaining Italian wines to my family. We successfully bought a bunch of wine too - thank you for the great visit!

We had a great tour and tasting with Sara! She was very passionate about the region, this family winery and their wines, which we enjoyed greatly. The wine is a true expression of the terroir. Highly recommend this smaller winery in contrast to other larger operations to get a local perspective.

Very nice experience, we called in the morning to ask for the tour and were very happy to hear that they could give as one in the afternoon. Our tour guide gave us information about the land and wine production and even the land owner had a talk with us. Highly recommend 😊

Our first trip to Tuscany, we found this winery on google maps and decided to pop in and it was fantastic! Sara gave us our tasting and we could not have had a better experience with her. Sara was kind and patient with us even though we did not have a reservation. We learned that it is very important to call ahead and make reservations rather that just pop by a winery. She walked us through all 5 wines on the tasting menu and they were so delicious we ended up shipping 12 bottles home. Sara was extremely knowledgeable about the wines offered at the winery as well as the wines of Tuscany and surrounding regions. If you are in the area we highly recommend you make a reservation and learn from Sara at La Ciarliana!

Lovely experience in early August, my mother and two young boys loved the experience of the tour and Sara our host was both knowledgeable and patient teaching us the importance of the winery, the process, and the love they capture in every bottle.

La Ciarliana was incredible! We stopped there after exploring Montepulciano and Sara organized our tasting. She was so kind and helpful explaining the wines. All of the wines were excellent.

We also met Luigi, the owner. He took the time to say hello and pour us a taste as well. We saw a part of the winery where they ferment the wine and Sara explained the laws around the wine designations as well.

This winery is family-owned and they make you feel so incredibly welcomed and at home. I would highly recommend visiting Ciarliana - it’s worth the trip to Tuscany all on its own.

What a lovely experience! We should have booked the tasting in advance but we forgot, luckily, they were very nice and offered us a tasting anyway. 5 wines, with some meat and cheese, for only 10 euro's per person! We couldn't enter the cellars because we brought our dog, which was understandable. But the wines were so good! We told ourselves we would only buy one bottle due to our budget, but we loved the wine & tasting so much that we left with 4 bottles instead 😂. Thank you! Can't wait to try with some mushrooms 🍷

My brother and I visited from the US and brought our new friends we met at dinner the night before. They were very accommodating to add two on to our reservation about half an hour beforehand.

We did the food and wine tasting with Sara, and it was a great experience! We learned so much about the culture behind wine, how its made, what makes each type unique, and of course got to taste great wine. This is a smaller operation, which makes it a more personal experience. The view from the back patio is unbeatable!
